Sarah Marro was named the next head coach of the Daemen University men's and women's tennis team, Vice President for Athletics Traci Murphy announced on Aug. 6, 2026. Marro became the sixth head coach in both men's and women's tennis history.

"In just three years, Coach Marro turned a young Division II program into an ECC Championship finalist and a nationally-ranked competitor," Murphy said. "That kind of program-building is exactly what we need as we move men's and women's tennis into the PSAC, and we're confident she'll have both teams competing at a high level from day one."

Marro comes to Daemen after a three-year stint as the head coach of the D'Youville University women's tennis team. In her three-year tenure across town, Marro transformed a winless program that had just transitioned to NCAA Division II to a historic third season, tallying an 8-8 Division II record and 5-2 record in East Coast Conference play in the 2025-26 season. Marro's Saints entered the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed and advanced to the ECC Championship Finals for the first time in program history this spring. She led D'Youville to a #48 ITA national ranking and #7 NCAA East Region ranking in her tenure. In her three years as the head coach of D'Youville women's tennis, Marro tallied an 11-24 overall record along with a 7-8 record in ECC play.

"I am honored to join Daemen Athletics as the next head coach of men's and women's tennis, and I am grateful for the confidence Vice President Traci Murphy and Senior Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations Laura Edholm have placed in me," Marro said. "I look forward to fostering a culture where student-athletes are challenged, supported, and empowered to pursue excellence while becoming the best versions of themselves. With the foundation already in place, I am excited to help establish Daemen tennis as the premier Division II tennis program in Western New York."

Prior to becoming the head coach at D'Youville, Marro spent three summers as a Tennis Professional at Bridgehampton Club Tennis in Bridgehampton, N.Y. where she began her tennis coaching experience. She directed competitive Junior Team matchplay along with structuring lesson plans and training frameworks for her athletes.

A native of Victor, N.Y., Marro graduated from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in May of 2023. Prior to transferring to GWU, Marro spent two seasons playing NCAA Division I women's tennis at Siena College where she placed as high as third in the MAAC conference tournament. Marro was a standout high school tennis player, helping lead Victor to two team Section V titles, two Section V doubles titles and two state qualifiers doubles titles.

Marro inherits a Daemen men's tennis program that won four matches in 2025-26 and returns six players from last season, including seniors Lucas Garcia (Bogota, Columbia) and Lasse Mergens (Bochum, Germany) who both collected wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles on the year. On the women's side, six players are back from the 25-26 squad with junior Bella Bjerkan (Elmhurst, Ill.), sophomore Marley Conover (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) and junior Lily Goodemote (Sauquoit, N.Y.) each collecting four singles wins on the year.
