Men's Basketball 2/6/2018 1:35:00 PM By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications Sischo Earns Sixth ECC Rookie of the Week Honor AMHERST, N.Y. - Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for games played January 29-February 4. It marks the sixth time this season that Sischo has earned the award. The official announcement of the ECC's weekly accolades was made via the league's weekly sport report which was released this afternoon from conference headquarters in West Babylon, N.Y. Sischo canned 70 percent of his field goal attempts (14-for-20) and averaged 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks while leading Daemen to road wins over St. Thomas Aquinas College (73-66) and University of the District of Columbia (78-65) last week. The victories pushed Daemen's record to 16-7 overall, and 10-3 in ECC play. The Wildcats have won 11 of their last 12 games, and have ascended to sixth in the latest D2SIDA East Region media poll. Friday's win over regionally-ranked St. Thomas Aquinas snapped a trio of streaks for the Spartans who entered the contest as winners of six straight games overall, 19 straight home games, and 20 straight ECC home games. Against STAC, Sischo shot 7-for-10 from the field, and totaled 14 points and a team-best nine rebounds. He followed that up by posting 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting, along with eight boards and two blocks in the win over UDC. Sischo has posted 15 straight double-figure scoring games, the longest streak for a Daemen player since 2017 graduate Supreme Hannah's (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) 15-game streak last season. Sischo's streak started Dec. 15 when he erupted for a career-high 27 points in a four-point road win over Mercy College, and in the span he's averaging 17.1 points on 60.3 percent field-goal shooting (114-for-189). For the season, Sischo is averaging 14.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He leads all ECC freshmen in scoring average, and ranks among the overall conference leaders in scoring (ninth), rebounding (second), made field goals (145 - fourth) and field goal percentage (57.1 - second). With 333 total points, Sischo is the first Daemen freshman to surpass 300 since Devon Dawson (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joe's) totaled 338 during the 2007-08 season. Sischo had previously earned ECC Rookie of the Week honors for games played November 20-26, December 11-17, December 18-31, January 1-7 and January 15-21. His six Rookie of the Week selections this season are the most for any ECC player since former STAC guard Chaz Watler earned the same amount during the 2013-14 season. Since the start of the 2015-16 campaign, Daemen players have earned 16 of the 42 Rookie of the Week selections named by the conference, double the next closest team (Molloy College has eight selections in that span). Sischo and the Wildcats are back in action this Friday, February 9 as the team begins its final homestand of the regular season. Longtime rival Roberts Wesleyan College visits Lumsden Gymnasium with tip-off slated for 8 p.m. For breaking news and continuing coverage of the Daemen men's basketball team, follow @DaemenAthletics and @DaemenMBB on Twitter.  Print Friendly Version Players Mentioned #22 Andrew Sischo C 6' 9" Redshirt Freshman Players Mentioned #22 Andrew Sischo 6' 9" Redshirt Freshman C
