Athlete Awards Athletes of the Month Choose Awards Type All Athlete Awards Athletes of the Month Shy Britton Award Athletes of the Month Week Of 4/10/2015 Sport Women's Basketball Bio View Full Bio AMHERST, N.Y. - Men's basketball player Gerald Beverly (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) and women's basketball player Shy Britton (Rochester, N.Y./Niagara University) have been named the Bedore Tours Student-Athletes of the Month for March, 2015.Beverly, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, led Daemen to a 3-0 record last month with all three wins coming at the 2015 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I National Championships as the Wildcats picked up the program's first-ever USCAA national title.  Beverly was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after averaging 18.7 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game while shooting 72-percent (21-for-29) from the field.In Daemen's quarterfinal round matchup vs. eighth-seeded Indiana University-South Bend, Beverly was dominant with 21 points - his 14th game of the season with 20 or more points - along with 19 rebounds.  In the semifinals vs. No. 4 Concordia College (Ala.), Beverly hit on 6-of-8 field goal attempts and collected 16 points and 12 rebounds for his 19th double-double of the year.  And in the championship game against third-seeded Rochester College (Mich.), missed just two field goal attempts again, shooting 9-for-11, en route to 19 points while grabbing eight caroms.  Beverly's effort helped Daemen avenge a 70-67 loss to Rochester in the 2013 USCAA title game which ended his sophomore campaign.In addition to his play on the court, March was a big month of hardware-collecting for big No. 55.  In March, Beverly was named the USCAA Division I National Player of the Year, First Team All-East Coast Conference and the ECC Defensive Player of the Year (for the second-straight season), First Team All-East Region (Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association), Second Team All-District (National Association of Basketball Coaches), Third Team All-American (Basketball Times) and Honorable Mention All-American (Daktronics/D2 CCA).Britton, a 5-foot-10 senior forward, collected All-Tournament Team honors at the women's USCAA Division I National Championships after helping Daemen to the program's second USCAA title in the last three seasons.  Britton averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game while shooting 51-percent from the field (18-for-35) in Daemen's three victories.Against fourth-seeded The Apprentice School, Britton scored 20 points - her fifth 20-point outing of the season - while hauling in seven boards and rejecting six shots.  In the semifinal round vs. top-seeded Concordia College (Ala.), Britton was hampered by foul trouble but managed six points and seven boards in 24 minutes as Daemen snapped the Hornet's 24-game winning streak to advance to the title game.  The following day, Britton matched a season-high with 21 points while adding eight boards and four swats to play an integral role in Daemen's three-point victory (78-75) over third-seeded Berea College (Ky.).Like Beverly, Britton also picked up some accolades last month for her play throughout the season.  She was named aSecond Team USCAA Division I All-American while also picking up Honorable Mention All-East Coast Conferencehonors.
