Head Coach Mark Spacone returns for his fourth season manning the sidelines for the Daemen College men's soccer team in 2014 after guiding the program into a new era last season as the Wildcats joined the East Coast Conference (ECC) of NCAA Division II.

The future of Daemen Soccer is as bright as ever, thanks in large part to the combination of the program's ascent to the ECC along with the addition of Spacone who was appointed to the position in November of 2010.  Since his arrival on campus, Spacone has established self-discipline, attention to detail, work ethic and competitive drive amongst his team's primary objectives.  With those initiatives in mind, his team is poised to see the benefits of their efforts on the pitch in 2014.

2013 was a year of transition for the program, but one that provided its share of memorable moments for Spacone and his squad.  In the season opener, Spacone guided the Wildcats to a thrilling 3-2 win in double overtime in a non-league clash with longtime rival Roberts Wesleyan College, snapping a six-game skid in the all-time series in the process.  Another victory of the overtime variety followed in mid-September when the Spacone's group downed cross-town rival Buffalo State College 2-1.  Three additional overtime games provided the Wildcat faithful with plenty of nail-biting action on the pitch as well.

In 2012, Spacone guided the team to a 4-4 mark in one-goal games, several of which were of the memorable variety.  The Wildcats scored back-to-back 2-1 wins in mid-September, first vs. Buffalo State (Sept. 15) and then vs. SUNY-Environmental Science & Forestry - the No. 6 ranked team in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) poll at the time - in the team's home-opener (Sept. 22) with freshman Caleb Holmes netting the game-winner 88th minute.

Spacone, who works as an economics and global studies teacher at Lackawanna High School, has emphasized the importance of academic achievement amongst his players as well.  Since taking over, the men's soccer team has consistently performed at a high level, earning a team grade point average higher than 3.0.  His players have also earned a multitude of Dean's List honors while 2012 saw four players honored with USCAA National All-Academic Team recognition.

Spacone brings a wealth of knowledge to the position with 16 prior years of experience after stops at nearly every level of the game, including collegiate, high school, club and Olympic Development.

In addition to his head coaching duties at Daemen, Spacone is currently a staff coach for Revolution Empire Soccer Academy (U.S. Soccer National Development Academy member) where he is charged with running Empire Training Centers which are used to identify and evaluate players for the full Revolution Empire Academy team. He is also a former Associate Director of Coaching with N.Y. State West Youth Soccer Association where he was responsible for administering coaching education courses ranging from Youth Modules to E and D license courses.

Spacone holds a U.S. Soccer "A" License and a U.S. Soccer National Youth License.  He is also a former collegiate athlete himself, having played for Buffalo State.

Spacone earned a Bachelors of Arts Degree in History and Italian as well as a Master's Degree in Social Studies Education from Buffalo State.  He is also co-founder of Sam's Army, a supporters' club for the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team.

Spacone is single and resides in Amherst, N.Y.
