BUFFALO, NY - For the second straight day sophomore forward
Samantha Engel (Dryden, NY/Dryden HS) doubled her pleasure with two goals to lead the Daemen Wildcats past the home-standing Medaille Mavericks 3-1 at Robert E. Rich All High Stadium this afternoon. With the win, Daemen improves to 6-2 on the season while the Mavs drop to 1-6.
"We played better as the game wore on," said Daemen head coach
Dan Dolan. "Playing our second game in as many days really showed because we weren't as sharp as I'd like but it was nice to get our sixth win of the season."
Engel opened the scoring early just as she did yesterday in Daemen's 5-0 rout of Carlow. Today, she notched her seventh goal of the season off a feed from senior
Jenelle Masi (Greece, NY/Greece Athena HS) in the fifth minute of the contest. For Masi, it was her American Mideast Conference-leading seventh assist of the season.
Junior striker
Kelsey O'Leary (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia HS) put the Wildcats ahead 2-0 with her eighth tally of the year in the 27th minute with an assist credited to senior
Alicia Vasiloff (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa HS).
Medaille's Brittany DeBole would cut the deficit to one when she scored unassisted in the 39th minute and the half would end with Daemen leading 2-1.
Engel would re-established Daemen's two goal lead in the 54th minute to close out the scoring.
Freshman goalkeeper
Kayla Hampton (DeRuyter, NY/DeRuyter HS), fresh off a career-best 11 save-outing yesterday, needed to make just two stops to pick up the victory today.
The Wildcats are idle until they face Walsh University on the road next Sunday.
