Box Score HOUGHTON, NY - Junior center Monica Kosior matched a career-high with 20 points as the #19 Daemen Wildcats held on for a 70-61 victory tonight over the Houghton Highlanders at the Nielsen Athletic Center. Daemen jumps to 18-4 overall and remains unblemished in American Mideast Conference play at 8-0. Houghton drops to 11-7, 3-3.

Kosior was masterful on the interior throughout the game, connecting on 10-for-17 from the field to go with six rebounds. She was not alone, however, as fellow six-footer Courtney Donovan canned 13 points, including a 3-for-6 showing from three-point range.

The Wildcats appeared to be running away with this one early in the second half. After leading by 20 at the half (43-23), the Daemen lead swelled to 24 at 58-34 before Houghton employed a 14-0 run to get themselves back into it. From there, the closest Houghton could get was seven points at 62-55.

Juniors Chelsea Andorka and Ellie Allen split 20 points for the Wildcats. Andorka added eight rebounds while Allen dropped five dimes in the contest. Fellow junior Sam Stanfield played a fine all-around game with eight points, nine rebounds and four steals.

Kristen Moose of Houghton led all players with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Naissa Guerrero was the only other player from Houghton to reach double figures with 10. The Daemen defense limited the Highlanders to just 22% shooting in the opening frame (8-for-36) before Houghton caught fire a bit in the second, out-scoring the visitors 38-27 in the period.

Next up for Daemen is a key conference showdown with Point Park this Saturday in West Mifflin, PA at 3:30pm. The game will be a first place showdown with the Pioneers (15-4, 6-0 AMC) coming in as winners of 10 straight and also unbeaten in league play.
