AMHERST, N.Y. –A red hot shooting performance led the Daemen College men's basketball team to a convincing 104-61 victory over Fleming College (Ont.) today at DC's Lumsden Gymnasium.
It marked the third-straight 100-point effort for the Wildcats, who improved to 3-0. Fleming dropped to 0-3.
Daemen made 58-percent (41-71) of its shots in the contest, including a 63-percent clip (22-for-35) in the first half.
Five players reached double figures for the Wildcats. Senior
Jim Regan (Williamsville, N.Y./Nichols) connected on 10-of-11 shots and totaled a game-high 21 points. Sophomore
Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls) made 7-of-10 shots and scored a career-high 18 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Junior
Kadeem Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) added a double-double (12 pts, 11 rebs) for the hosts, while freshman
Supreme Hannah (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) netted 12 points in 12 minutes off the bench. Junior
Casey Sheehan (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) turned in a solid all-around effort with 11 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Freshman Shacqueal Blagrove (Bowmanville, Ont.) paced the Knights with 16 points and five assists off the bench.
Daemen shot a sizzling 63-percent (22-35) from the field in the first half. The Wildcats held a 19-7 lead five minutes into the contest. Back-to-back dunks by Sheehan and Regan with just under eight minutes left before halftime gave the hosts a 42-17 advantage. The lead bulged to 30 points, 48-18, following a layup by Johnson with 4:56 left before the break, and the hosts took a 59-30 lead into halftime.
The Wildcats outscored the Knights 14-2 over the first five minutes of the second half. A three-pointer by Regan capped the run and gave the hosts a 73-32 lead. Daemen led by 46 points (84-38) midway through the second half, and took its largest lead of the game, 102-48, following a triple by Greene with 4:31 left.
Daemen forced 28 turnovers in the game, which resulted in 43 points for the hosts. Fleming connected on just 11-of-33 shots in the opening half and finished just 23-of-60 (38%) for the game.
Daemen has now shot over 50-percent in each of its first three games. The hosts got 51 points from its bench, out-rebounded the Knights 45-30 and held a 60-24 advantage in points in the paint.
Daemen is idle until Friday (Nov. 2) when it hosts the University of Toronto in opening round action of the Knee Center of WNY Classic. Game time is 8 p.m.
