Daemen Shuts Out Roberts Wesleyan 1-0

10/27/2012 9:19:00 PM

Box Score ROCHESTER, NY - A lone goal from Daemen College junior Alexa Amato (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) in the third minute held up as the only tally needed as the Wildcats blanked the host Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks 1-0 tonight.

Daemen goalkeeper Kayla Hampton (DeRuyter, NY/DeRuyter) played her finest game of the season, making nine saves to pick up the shutout in her first game since missing the last two Wildcat outings due to injury.

With the win, Daemen improves to 7-9 on the season with one more game remaining on their regular season schedule - a 5:00 tilt tomorrow at Fisher College (Mass.) - before they open the USCAA National Tournament against third-seeded Penn College on Thursday, Nov. 1 from Asheville, NC.

"We played our best soccer of the year in the first half tonight," said Daemen head coach Dan Dolan. "We kind of had to just survive in the second half. Our back line was solid and Alexa came through for us again. She's really carried our offense in the last few games. Overall, this is a great win for us."

The Redhawks held a 23-13 edge in total shots but Hampton stood tall in goal, out-dueling RWC's Breanna Maggio who took the loss.
