Wildcats Take Down Point Park In AMC Finals Rematch

Box Score AMHERST, N.Y. – Senior Monica Kosior (Grimsby, Ont./Canisius College) scored 16 points and classmate Ellie Allen (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) added 14 points and four assists to lead the Daemen College women's basketball team to a 74-60 victory over Park Point University here today.
 
Daemen improved to 7-1 on the year, while Point Park suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 2-1.
 
Freshman Raeann Stilwell (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) helped the Daemen cause, as she scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half. Senior Chelsea Andorka (Canton, Ohio./Notre Dame College), who reached double figures for the eighth-straight game, nearly recorded a triple double for Daemen and finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. She also registered four blocks. Senior Lia Zahn (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) went 3-for-4 from three-point land and totaled nine points.
 
Sophomore Ja'Nia McPhatter (New Castle, Pa./LaRoche College) led Point Park with 17 points and eight rebounds, while junior Katresa Savisky (Butler, Pa./Butler County CC) added 15 points.
 
Daemen held a 15-12 lead nine minutes into the game when a corner three-pointer by Zahn gave the hosts an 18-12 advantage. The Pioneers answered with a NBA three-pointer by senior Brittany Dummire (West Homestead, Pa./Steel Valley), and a layup by McPhatter cut the Daemen lead to a point, 18-17, with 9:47 left before halftime. A layup by Andorka and another triple by Zahn gave the Wildcats a 23-17 lead, and Andorka later gave the hosts a 27-18 lead when she grabbed a defensive rebound and went coast-to-coast for a layup. Point Park later cut the lead to seven points, before a steal, layup and free throw by Stilwell with 2:25 left in the half gave Daemen a 33-23 lead. The hosts took a 33-25 lead into halftime.
 
The teams traded baskets early in the second half and Daemen held a 37-27 lead when a jumper by senior Samantha Stanfield (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) sparked the Wildcats on a 9-1 run. A three-point play by Allen with 12:54 to play capped the spurt and gave Daemen an 18-point edge, 46-28. Point Park cut the lead to 12 points following a 5-0 run late, but a three-pointer by Stilwell killed the rally and gave the Wildcats a 66-51 lead with 4:15 to play.
 
Daemen connected on 55-percent (18-33) of its shots in the second half and shot 51-percent from the field overall (30-59). Point Park, which attempted 34 three-pointers in the game and made seven, shot just 30-percent (22-72) from the field overall.
 
Daemen returns to action Thursday (11/15) when it travels to Roberts Wesleyan College for a 7 p.m. game.
