Scranton, Pa. (Nov. 16, 2012) – Four players scored in double figures as the Daemen College women's basketball team sprinted to to a 97-50 victory over Penn State Worthington Scranton here tonight.
Daemen, a Division I member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), improved to 9-1 on the year. PSWS, a USCAA Division II member, dropped to 1-1.
Seniors
Monica Kosior (Grimsby, Ont./Canisius College),
Chelsea Andorka (Canton, Ohio/Notre Dame College) and
Ellie Allen (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) led the way for Daemen. Kosior totaled a team-high 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field to go with nine rebounds. Andorka tossed in 15 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals. She now sits just eight points shy of 1,000 for her career. Allen, meanwhile, contributed her second double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Allen also dished out a game-high seven assists.
Junior
Jillian Fitzner (Hamburg, N.Y./Immaculata Academy) came off the bench for the Wildcats and equaled her career-high with 12 points.
Junior Jessica Segilia (Moosic, Pa.) netted 28 points for the host Lions, albeit on 10-of-33 shooting from the field.
Daemen scored the first 10 points of the game and later took a 33-10 lead following a three-pointer by freshman
Raeann Stilwell (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) with eight minutes left before halftime. The Wildcats made 23-of-42 shots (55%) in the first half en route to a 54-22 halftime lead.
Daemen held a 76-43 lead with 12 minutes left to play, and the Wildcats outscored the Lions 21-7 the remainder of the half. 11 of the 12 Daemen players who played in the game scored at least one point.
Daemen is idle for seven days before traveling to Marietta (Ohio) College to take part in the Jim Meagle Turkey Shootout. The Wildcats will face Muskingum University in the opening round on Friday, Nov. 24. Game time is 6 p.m.
