AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's basketball team will look to return to its winning ways this weekend when Laurentian University visits Lumsden Gymnasium for a pair of games. The Wildcats and Voyageurs tipoff at 7 p.m. on Friday night before conducting a 2 p.m. matinee affair on Saturday.
Daemen has been ranked No. 1 in the last three United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I polls. The new USCAA poll is unveiled Friday, Dec. 21.
Daemen is 8-1 in home games and 11-4 overall after dropping two games last weekend at the Shawnee State Tournament. Daemen fell to the host Bears – the #15 ranked team in NAIA Division I – by eight points (65-57) on Dec. 14. The next day, the Wildcats dropped a 61-60 decision to NAIA Division I #21 Gerogetown College. After falling behind by as many as 11 points in the second half to Georgetown, Daemen tied the score at 58-58 on a basket by
Lindsay Stoddard (Limestone, N.Y./Allegany Limestone) and then took a 60-58 lead on an acrobatic lay-up by
Ellie Allen (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) with 33 seconds left. But, Georgetown's Andrea Howard nailed a three-pointer with six seconds remaining to deliver the win for the Tigers.
Daemen has been led by the senior trio of
Chelsea Andorka (Canton, Ohio/Notre Dame College),
Monica Kosior (Grimsby, Ont./Canisius College) and Allen all season long.
Andorka has scored in double figures 13 times already this season, including 11 straight to start the year. She is averaging a team-high 14.3 points per game and also ranks second on the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), assists (65), steals (39) and blocks (19). She recorded her 1,000th career point during a loss to Muskingum and her 500th rebound in the win over UMFK.
Kosior, who was named the USCAA Player of the Week earlier this year, is averaging 11.9 points and leads the team in rebounding (7.6 rpg) and blocks (34). She had a string of four consecutive double-doubles earlier this season, including a 24-point, 10-rebound performance in Daemen's 86-83 double overtime victory over Ryerson University back on Nov. 3.
Allen comes in third on the team in scoring (11.2 ppg) and assists (52) while also ranking fourth in rebounding (6.3 rpg).

She's averaging 17.0 points in her last four games, raising her season average from 7.8 points per game to 10.3 in the process. She leads the team in assists (69) and is second in three-point baskets (21). Nearly half of her three-pointers have come in the last four games as she's hit 10-of-21 (48%) from behind the arc in that span. That stretch included an incredible 24-point, 12-assist performance in which shit connected on 5-of-8 from deep during Daemen's 99-50 rout of Maine-Fort Kent in the team's last home outing on Dec. 2.
5-foot-5 inch senior guard
