Box Score AMHERST, NY - Freshman Kim Obermeier (Depew, NY/Depew HS) bagged the game-winning goal in her collegiate debut to help the Daemen Wildcats earn a victory in their season opener, besting the Sheridan Bruins 2-1 before 65 spectators at the Park School of Buffalo Soccer Field.

After a scoreless first half, Sheridan's Alyssa Texeira carried the ball from midfield and launched a shot to the top of the Daemen net in the 55th minute, putting her squad ahead 1-0, albeit briefly.

Daemen (1-0-0) responded with a tally by junior striker Samantha Engel (Dryden, NY/Dryden HS) in the 57th minute.  Engel stole the ball on a failed Sheridan clearing attempt and buried a shot from the left wing to the far top corner of the goal.

Obermeier's marker came just moments later, in the 59th minute, as she buried her long shot from the right wing.

Daemen dominated possession in the game, out-shooting the Bruins 22-5 in the contest, but placed only eight shots on frame.  Head coach Dan Dolan said there's many areas where his team can improve.

"We possessed well, but we weren't aggressive enough playing long balls," Dolan said.  "We're a talented offensive team but we got stuck playing too many short balls.  We couldn't get penetration doing that.  I'd like to see us play more long balls and be more aggressive."

Dolan's team will have an opportunity to do just that as they face this same Sheridan Bruin team tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
