Box Score AMHERST, NY - A goal from sophomore
Juli Prentice (Dryden, NY/Dryden HS) was the difference as the Daemen Wildcats improved to 2-0 on the season today by defeating the Sheridan Bruins 1-0 on a beautiful afternoon at Dimp Wagner Stadium. The win was the second in as many days for Daemen over the Bruins whom the Wildcats defeated 2-1 last night. The win sets up tomorrow's showdown with the defending USCAA National Champions - the Maine-Fort Kent Lady Bengals.
The Wildcats came out strong and generated several scoring chances early on. Prentice's tally came in the 14th minute on her own corner kick, deflecting into the goal off the body of Sheridan goalkeeper Lianne Schlicter. The goal was originally awarded to freshman
Meghan Lipinoga (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda HS) who appeared to have headed the ball in, but upon further review the goal was scored correctly to Prentice.
From there, the game seemed to lag on without many scoring chances for either team. Daemen dominated possession of the ball and out-shot the Bruins 19-6 for the game, including 15-1 in the first half. The Wildcats managed just seven shots on goal, however, including only one in the second half.
Daemen goalkeeper
Kayla Hampton (DeRuyter, NY/DeRuyter HS) needed to make just three saves to record her first shutout of the season.
Next up for Daemen is the afore-mentioned showdown vs. Maine-Fort Kent. The Lady Bengals come into tomorrow's 11am game as the two-time defending USCAA National Champs and are riding an 18-game winning streak.
