Box Score AMHERST, NY - On a dark, rainy day at Dimp Wagner Stadium, the Daemen Wildcats snapped their three-game skid with a 3-1 win over the visiting SUNY-ESF Mighty Oaks. With the win, Daemen improves to 3-3-0 on the season while the Mighty Oaks fall to 1-4-0.
Freshman
Kim Obermeier (Depew, NY/Depew HS) got Daemen on the board in the 21st minute. She took a pass and launched a hard shot from the top of the box that was saved by SUNY-ESF goalkeeper Olivia Gagliardi, but the rebound shot out to the middle of the box where Obermeier pounced and hammered her second attempt to the back of net.
Obermeier then found junior
Alexa Amato (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island HS) with a through ball right up the middle. Amato did her part, beating Gagliardi to the ball and flicking it past her to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute.
Later, junior striker
Samantha Engel (Dryden, NY/Dryden HS) got loose up the left sideline, chased down a long pass from freshman
Meghan Lipinoga (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda HS) and chipped the ball over Gagliardi who had raced out of her goal. Engel's tally in the 53rd minute put the Wildcats comfortably ahead 3-0.
Mighty Oaks' midfielder Jessica Savo broke up the Daemen shutout bid when she scored in the 89th minute after a failed Wildcat clearing attempt.
Nonetheless, sophomore goalkeeper
Kayla Hampton (DeRuyter, NY/DeRuyter HS) made two saves to pick up her third win of the season.
Daemen now hits the road to face Wilkes University tomorrow in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
