Wildcats Struggle In 4-0 Loss To Wilkes

9/27/2012 7:22:00 PM

Box Score WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes Colonels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second minute of play today en route to handing the visiting Daemen Wildcats a 4-0 defeat.

After the Colonels' Katie Hughes scored just moments into the game, Priscilla Bonilla added a tally in the 33rd minute giving Wilkes a 2-0 lead that would hold up through the first half.

More of the same piled up in the second half as Wilkes got goals from Erin Donnelly, in the 62nd minute, and from Ashley Graham in the 82nd minute to provide the final margin.  Graham added two assists as part of her four-point afternoon.

A day after the Wildcats stung the SUNY-ESF Mighty Oaks with three goals, Daemen mustered just four shots on goal in the contest vs. Wilkes.  Wilkes launched 23 total shots and placed 11 on frame.

"We started off real slow and struggled big time with 50-50 balls," said Daemen head coach Dan Dolan.  "We settled down in the second half and possessed well in the midfield but we just couldn't threaten in the attacking third whatsoever."

Daemen, who had evened its' record in yesterday's win, falls to 3-4-0 on the season.  Wilkes upped its' record to 5-2-1 with the win.

It doesn't get any easier from here as the Wildcats will make the long trek to northern Maine where they'll face the defending USCAA National Champions - the Maine-Fort Kent Lady Bengals - on back-to-back days next weekend.  The teams met earlier this year at Dimp Wagner Stadium with the Lady Bengals pulling off the 2-1 win in overtime.
