Daemen Takes Two More At Ram Fest

9/27/2012 2:03:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST CHESTER, PA - The Daemen Wildcats completed an impressive weekend sweep of their four matches in West Chester University's Ram Fest by picking up two more wins over NCAA Division II-opponents today.  Daemen ousted the host Golden Rams in three sets (25-20, 25-23, 25-16) before topping the Philadelphia Rams, also in three sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-22).

The Daemen setters were clicking in the day's opening match vs. West Chester as junior Kaley Vazquez (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West HS) accounted for a season-high 24 assists and sophomore Chelsea Turcer (Alexander, NY/Alexander Central HS) added a career-best 23 assists.

With that kind of production out of their setters, Wildcat hitters were productive as well.  Sophomore Lindsey Nowak (Hamburg, NY/Immaculata Acad.) led the way with 12 kills, followed by senior Joanna Fretthold (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda HS) who notched 10.  Juniors Kaitlin Watchey (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS) and Jenn Karan (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park HS) were not far behind with nine kills apiece as the Wildcats hit .354 as a team.

In the later match vs. Philadelphia, it was again Fretthold and Karan leading the team as the dynamic duo of outside hitters split 22 kills between them.  Nowak added eight kills while senior Katie Auge (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca HS) had six kills and a team-high 14 digs.

Vazquez and Turcer combined for 27 assists in the win.

This was a strong showing for the Wildcats who swept all four of their matches this weekend without dropping a set.  All four were against NCAA Division II competition and gets Daemen back on track with a record of 8-5 on the season.

Next up for the Wildcats is another pair of Division II opponents; Daemen will play Adelphi and Assumption next Saturday in a tri-match at the latter.
