1/10/2013 3:48:00 PM

AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's basketball team will get a rare opportunity to square off against a NCAA Division I program when it travels to Cornell University on Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m. at Cornell's Newman Arena.

Live video, stats and audio links are available for the game.

It will mark the first-ever meeting between Daemen and Cornell, and the first time the Wildcats have faced a Division I school since posting its only win over a Division I opponent back on Feb. 15, 2001.

Daemen is 1-5 all-time against Division I opponents, with the lone win being a 62-55 victory over the University at Albany on Feb. 15, 2001. Daemen is 0-2 against both Canisius College and St. Bonaventure University and 1-1 against Albany. The Wildcats did face the University at Buffalo in an exhibition game on Nov. 8, 2010, falling to the Bulls 86-48.

Daemen has been ranked No. 1 in the last five United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division I polls. The Wildcats are 7-3 over their last 10 games and posted wins over three nationally ranked teams during a trip to Florida last week. Highlighting the trip was a 73-62 win over Ave Maria University, which is ranked third in the most recent USCAA poll.

Seniors Chelsea Andorka (Canton, Ohio/Notre Dame College), Ellie Allen (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Monica Kosior (Grimsby, Ont./Canisius College) have paced the Wildcats all season.

Andorka is averaging a team-high 13.2 points and ranks second in rebounding (7.5 rpg), assists (93), steals (54) and blocks (25). Allen has averaged 15.0 points over the past six games and is averaging a steady 12.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. She stands just 41 points shy of 1,000 for her career. Kosior has recorded a double-double in each of the last four games and totaled 14 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in the win over Ave Maria. She is averaging 12.1 points and leads the team in rebounding (8.6 rpg) and blocks (54). She recorded her 100th career block during the trip to Florida and ranks sixth in career blocks among Daemen's all-time leaders with 109.

Junior point guard Lindsay Stoddard (Limestone, N.Y./Allegany-Limestone) and senior guard Samantha Stanfield (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) have also produced. Stoddard is averaging 9.5 points and leads the team in assists (95). The 5-foot-5 Stanfield is averaging 7.4 points and an impressive 6.7 rebounds per game (third on the team), and leads the team in steals (67).

Senior Lia Zahn (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and freshman Raeann Stilwell (Cheektowaga, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) have contributed off the bench. Zahn has 20 three-pointers and is averaging 4.4 points. Stilwell is averaging 9.0 points and has drained a team-high 36 three-pointers.

Cornell improved to 7-6 following a 70-43 victory over the University at Buffalo on Jan. 5. The Big Red return four starters and nine players from last year's team that finished 12-16 overall and placed fifth in The Ivy League (6-8). The 12 wins were the most in one season for the Big Red since the 2007-08 season when they posted a 20-9 record and made their only appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Junior Allyson DiMagno and senior Claire Fitzpatrick have paced the Big Red this season after earning honorable mention All-Ivy League honors last winter. DiMagno, a 5-foot-11 guard, is averaging a double-double (13.6 ppg, 11.5 rpg) and also leads the team in steals (25). She totaled 10 points and 16 rebounds in the win over UB. Fitzpatrick, a 6-foot-1 forward, totaled 18 points and 12 boards in a 52-49 loss at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and is averaging 11.8 points and 4.1 rebounds. Additional production has come from junior guard Shelby Lyman (7.1 ppg, 21 3pt fgs) and senior guard Spencer Lane (6.9 ppg, 3.3 apg). Cornell is averaging 57.6 points per game.

Cornell assistant coach Kharmen Wingard served as an assistant coach with the Daemen men's basketball program from 2005-07 and is a 2005 graduate of Daemen. He played three seasons for the Wildcats and was a three-time All-American Mideast Conference (AMC) selection. He graduated seventh in career scoring and second in career three-point field goals made, and helped Daemen to an appearance in the NAIA Division II Tournament quarterfinals in his sophomore season.
