Wildcats Secure 2nd Straight 20-Win Season

Daemen Sprints Past UMFK 107-66

Daemen (20-5) 48-59--107
Maine-Fort Kent (0-17) 33-33--66

FORT KENT, Maine - The Daemen College men's basketball team picked up its 20th win of the season today by knocking off the host University of Maine-Fort Kent,107-66, today at the UMFK Sports Center.

Daemen, the #4 ranked team in the last seven consecutive United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) polls, improved to 20-5 on the season and have now won nine of their last 10.  It's the second consecutive 20-win season for coach Don Silveri's squad and the program's seventh such season in the last 11 years.

A long season continued for the host Bengals who dropped to 0-17.  The two teams also met last month at Lumsden Gymnasium with Daemen claiming a 96-67 victory.

Senior forward Jim Regan (Williamsville, N.Y./Nichols) picked an opportune time to put together his finest offensive play of the season.  The 6'7" Regan scored 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting to lead a sextet of double figure scorers for the Wildcats.  This comes after Regan scored a career-best 31 points in Friday's 93-70 win over the University of Maine-Presque Isle.  Regan's dominance down low has helped the Wildcats weather the loss of sophomore forward Gerald Beverly (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) who was once again out with an ankle injury.

Sophomore forward Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls) hit on 6-of-6 from the field and scored 13 points while junior guard Casey Sheehan (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) totaled 11 points, seven assists and four steals.

The Daemen bench mob was led by freshman guard Supreme Hannah (Rochester, N.Y./Eastridge) who canned 3-of-4 three-point attempts en route to a career-high 13 points.  Uchechi Ogbonna (Hicksville, N.Y./Erie CC) and Kadeem Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) scored 11 and 10 points off the bench, respectively.  Ogbonna's double-figure outing was his first since Dec. 11.

Freshman forward Tom Escott (Amherst, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate) added nine points and a team-high nine boards to the Wildcat cause.

Daemen took a 15-point lead (48-33) into the halftime intermission before exploding for 59 points in the second half.  It was the 18th time this season that Daemen has scored 50 or more points in a half and subsequently, they topped the 100-point plateau for the eighth time.

Yoshives Belizaire (Miramara, Fla./Somerset) pumped in a game-high 23 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Bengals.  Sean Doman (Queens, N.Y./Southwest) scored 13 points - all in the second half - and Curtis Bouchard (Fort Kent, Maine/Fort Kent) added 11.

Daemen shot a blistering 56-percent for the game (44-for-78).  UMFK shot the ball decently (23-for-53; 43-percent) but committed 26 turnovers and lost the battle of the boards 38-27.

Daemen will conclude its current three-game trip through New England when it faces former American Mideast Conference foe Fisher College in the greater Boston, Mass. area on Monday (Jan. 21).  Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
