HOWELL, Mich. - The Daemen College women's soccer team scored their second victory of the weekend, downing host Cleary University 4-1 in a non-conference matchup this afternoon.  With the win, Daemen jumps back above .500 for the season (7-6-0 overall) and runs their winning streak to eight straight vs. United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) affiliates.  Cleary falls to 3-12-0 this season - its first as a varsity-sponsored sport.

Shelby Marsh put the Cougars ahead early, scoring just 1:13 into the game on a penalty kick.

Daemen responded with a flurry of goals in the opening period.  Senior striker Samantha Engel (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) scored at the 16:34 mark on a feed from freshman Leah May (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) to knot the score.

Soon thereafter, sophomore Jessica Zawadzki (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore West) found classmate Meghan Lipinoga (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Canisius College) on a corner kick.  Lipinoga put home her second tally of the season at the 20:25 mark to put Daemen ahead 2-1.

Senior Kacey Bougard (East Aurora, N.Y./Sacred Heart) added her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 25th minute off a pass from junior Rachael Banasik (Depew, N.Y./Depew).

Engel added her second of the game when fellow co-captian Juli Prentice (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) hit her with a pass at the 25:40 mark.

The teams played a scoreless second half to provide the final margin.

Senior Rachel Reichart (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquois Central) went the distance between the pipes for Daemen to pick up her first win of the season.

Daemen, the No. 2 ranked team in the USCAA, improved to 4-0 this season against USCAA opponents, albeit after surrendering their first goal to a USCAA team since their 2-1 victory over Carlow University in the USCAA national semifinals last season, a span of five games.

Daemen returns to action when they host East Coast Conference foe Dowling College at Dimp Wagner Stadium this Friday (Oct. 11) and 11 a.m.
