AMHERST, N.Y. - Senior middle blocker Kaitlin Watchey (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for competitions held from Oct. 21-27 as announced by the conference office today.

The 5-foot-11 Watchey led Daemen to a pair of victories against two of the upper-echelon teams in the conference last week.  Daemen defeated third-place Long Island University Post in four sets on Friday night before storming past the New York Institute of Technology in straight sets on Saturday.  New York Tech had entered the match tied with the University of Bridgeport for first place in the conference standings.

Watchey had a season-high 12 kills in the win vs. LIU Post and tied for team-lead with nine kills against New York Tech. In all, she hit .500 on 32 attempts for the week and also added five service aces to the Daemen victories.  Watchey's performances helped Daemen run their record 12-9 this season (6-5 in ECC play).  The Wildcats have now won four consecutive matches.

Watchey joins teammate Ye Wang (Beijing, China/Hachioji Jissen) as players who have earned the weekly honor.  Wang was previously named the ECC Player of the Week for Sept. 16-22 and again for Oct. 14-20.

Watchey and the Wildcats return to the court tonight when they host rival Roberts Wesleyan College for a 7 p.m. match at Lumsden Gymnasium.
