Watchey Named ECC Volleyball Player Of The Week Senior Led Daemen To Wins Over ECC Front-Runners LIU Post & NYIT Last Week 10/29/2013 9:55:00 AM AMHERST, N.Y. - Senior middle blocker Kaitlin Watchey (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown) of Daemen College has been named the East Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for competitions held from Oct. 21-27 as announced by the conference office today. The 5-foot-11 Watchey led Daemen to a pair of victories against two of the upper-echelon teams in the conference last week. Â Daemen defeated third-place Long Island University Post in four sets on Friday night before storming past the New York Institute of Technology in straight sets on Saturday. Â New York Tech had entered the match tied with the University of Bridgeport for first place in the conference standings. Watchey had a season-high 12 kills in the win vs. LIU Post and tied for team-lead with nine kills against New York Tech. In all, she hit .500 on 32 attempts for the week and also added five service aces to the Daemen victories. Â Watchey's performances helped Daemen run their record 12-9 this season (6-5 in ECC play). Â The Wildcats have now won four consecutive matches. Watchey joins teammate Ye Wang (Beijing, China/Hachioji Jissen) as players who have earned the weekly honor. Â Wang was previously named the ECC Player of the Week for Sept. 16-22 and again for Oct. 14-20. Watchey and the Wildcats return to the court tonight when they host rival Roberts Wesleyan College for a 7 p.m. match at Lumsden Gymnasium. Print Friendly Version
