Box Score

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Daemen College women's volleyball team saw its winning streak end at four matches as they fell in four sets (25-23, 15-25, 9-15, 17-25) on the road against Long Island University Post.  The match was Daemen's first-ever as a member of the East Coast Conference (ECC) and was the first of a three-matches-in-three-days road trip.

Daemen pulled out a 25-23 win in the opening set, but lost traction after that, dropping the final three sets to the Pioneers to lose the match and drop their record to 6-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.  The Pioneers, who were slotted just ahead of Daemen at No. 4 in the ECC Preseason Poll, improved to 9-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

Still, there were some positives for Daemen in the loss. In addition to the standout performances from Kaley Vazquez (Kenmore, N.Y./Kenmore West), Ye Wang (Beijing, China/Hachioji Jissen) and Paige Tilert (Derby, N.Y./ Lake Shore) that are fast becoming the norm for the Wildcats, Brittany Anthon (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) and Chelsea Turcer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central)  had what was arguably their best individual performances of the season.

Vazquez (14 assists), Wang (13 kills) and Tilert (17 digs) all led or tied for the team lead in their respective categories. Anthon added four kills and tied Tilert's mark of 17 digs, while Turcer notched Daemen's only double-double of the night with 12 digs and 10 assists in what was likely the top showing from any Wildcat player against LIU Post today.

Still, there were struggles for Daemen that led to their defeat. As a team, they only hit .037 percent and had just three total team blocks, a far cry from the 10 they put up in Wednesday's straight-sets win over Le Moyne.

The Pioneers received solid performances from Shelby McCool (12 kills), Makamae Namahoe (28 digs), and Lulu Centro (34 assists).

"We got ourselves in a tailspin in the second set after gutting out a nice win in the first," said Daemen head coach Mark Parisi.  "Ther challenged us and we weren't up for it today.  We will learn that small changes in our posture and footwork will put us where we need to be to drive transition from the opponent's serve.  That's an area we struggled in today."

Daemen continues its road trip with a match tomorrow against the New York Institute of Technology at 2 p.m in Old Westbury, N.Y., followed by a 12 p.m. tilt versus Dowling College in Oakdale, N.Y. on Sunday.
