THE COACHES: Dan Dolan is in his fifth season as head coach at Daemen...the 2011 American Mideast Conference (AMC) Coach of the Year, Dolan has led the Wildcats to three consecutive winning seasons and owns a career record of 47-31-2 (.600)...he guided Daemen to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national championship last fall...Sarah Arsenault is in her first season as head coach at SUNY Canton...a former NCAA Division II All-American at Slippery Rock, she spent the past three years as assistant men's and women's soccer coach at Waynesburg University.
THE SERIES: Tuesday's game will mark just the second all-time meeting between the Wildcats and the Kangaroos...Daemen rolled to an 8-2 victory in the only previous meeting during the 2011 season in Canton, N.Y...Samantha Engel led the way with a three-goal "hat trick", while Kelsey O'Leary added two goals and an assist...Kayla Hampton went the distance in goal for Daemen and stopped two shots...the Wildcats posted a 29-5 edge in shots.
NCAA DIVISION II: Daemen is in Candidacy Year Two of the NCAA Division II membership process...Daemen has been accepted as a member of the East Coast Conference (ECC) and will play full regular-season conference schedules beginning this fall...the College will also maintain its affiliation with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) for postseason opportunities, as it will not be eligible for the ECC or NCAA postseason during Candidacy Year Two.
THE WILDCATS: Daemen lost six starters from last year's team that won eight of its final nine contests en route to the USCAA championship...the Wildcats were picked 10th in the ECC preseason poll...Daemen is ranked third in the USCAA national poll released Sept. 27...a solid backline--led by juniors Hannah Fraser (Milton, Vt./Milton) and Meghan Diehl (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) and redshirt-sophomore Meghan Lipinoga (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Canisius College)--returns intact...the unit has shutout seven of its last 12 opponents dating back to the end of last season...offensive firepower returns in the form of seniors Alexa Amato (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) and Samantha Engel (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden)...Amato collected team Most Valuable Player honors and first team USCAA All-America honors last fall after leading the team in goals (10) and points (22)...Engel entered the year with 75 career points (25 gls, 25 asts) and garnered second team USCAA All-America honors last season...Daemen opened the year with home wins over Aldersson-Broaddus (4-0) and Maine-Fort Kent (2-0), before suffering a 1-0 loss at Edinboro...the loss snapped Daemen's seven-game winning streak dating back to the end of last season...the Wildcats rebounded with a 1-0 victory over Davis & Elkins, before opening conference play with losses to Queens (3-1) and Molloy (3-1)...Daemen suffered its third-straight loss and dropped to 3-4-0 (0-3-0 ECC) following a 4-0 setback at rival Roberts Wesleyan this past weekend...Engel was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week and USCAA Player of the Week after totaling a goal and an assist in each of the wins over A-B and UMFK...she also scored the DC goals in the losses to Queens and Molloy and has totaled 10 points (4 gls, 2 asts) overall...redshirt senior Kacey Bougard (East Aurora, N.Y./Sacred Heart) made the most of her first game action since 2010 with a "hat trick" and an assist in the season-opening win over A-B...she also netted the lone goal in the win over D&E and has totaled a team-high 11 points (4 gls, 3 asts)...Amato has missed the last five games due to injury...redshirt freshman Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) has started all seven games in net and made a career-high 11 saves in the loss to Edinboro...she made nine saves in the win over UMFK...that effort earned her ECC Co-Rookie of the Week honors...she owns a 1.65 GAA with two shutouts.
THE KANGAROOS: SUNY Canton is transitioning from NAIA to NCAA Division III...the Kangaroos return three of the top four scorers and a total of 12 players from last year's team that posted a 7-10-1 record...SUNY Canton is ranked 15th in the USCAA national poll released Sept. 27...the Roos opened the year with three-straight wins over Bay Path (4-0), Wells (6-1) and Green Mountain (3-0), before suffering four-straight losses to D'Youville (4-1), Alfred State (4-0), Keuka (3-1) and SUNY Potsdam (2-0)...the Roos got back on the winning track with victories over King's College (5-0) and SUNY Maritime (4-3 OT) this past weekend...senior Katlyn Hart (7 gls, 3 asts) and sophomore Karley Cree (3 gls, 4 asts) have paced the offense thus far...Hart had two goals and an assist in the win over Wells and scored twice--including the OT game-winner--in the 4-3 win over SUNY Maritime...additional offense has come from sophomore Franchesca Trombley (4 gls, 1 ast) and senior Jade Sayward (3 gls, 2 asts)...freshman Brittany Roach (1.87 GAA, 3 SO) has started all nine games in net and made a season-high 10 saves in the loss to Alfred State.
DID YOU KNOW?: Daemen is 33-2-1 since the start of the 2010 season when it scores two or more goals...the Wildcats are 8-0-0 in the last eight games in which they have scored two or more goals...Daemen has played seven overtime games since the start of the 2010 season and is 5-1-1 in those contests...Daemen is 21-7-1 in home games since the start of the 2010 season...the losses to Queens and Molloy earlier this season were the first back-to-back home games that Daemen has dropped since the end of the 2009 season when they fell to Mount Vernon Nazarene (3-0 on Oct. 24, 2009) and Notre Dame College (2-1 on Oct. 31, 2009).
WHAT'S NEXT: The Wildcats return to action this weekend when they head to Long Island, N.Y. for three ECC games against New York Tech (Oct. 4), St. Thomas Aquinas (Oct. 5) and LIU-Post (Oct. 6)...Daemen's next home game is Friday, Oct. 18 when it hosts Dowling College in an ECC match.
