AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team was left still searching for their first East Coast Conference victory of the season after suffering a 2-0 defeat to visiting Roberts Wesleyan College today at Dimp Wagner Stadium. Daemen, which was coming off a 1-1 tie in their last league outing vs. St. Thomas Aquinas College and a 3-2 non-conference victory over Medaille College earlier this week, couldn't keep the momentum rolling as the Wildcats fall to 3-8-1 overall and 0-4-1 in ECC play. Roberts Wesleyan evened up their overall record (6-6-0) while picking up their second league win of the year, against three defeats.
The Redhawks got on the board early as Bella Mitrevski sent a high, arching shot from 35 yards out over the head of Daemen goalkeeper
Juli Prentice (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) who was caught out of the net. Heaven Palamitia picked up an assist on the play which put the Redhawks ahead 1-0 in just the fourth minute of the contest. For Mitrevski, it was her seventh tall of the year.
Later, the Redhawks' Ellie Swan would add an insurance goal, scoring her fifth of the season in the 56th minute. Samantha Moreno broke up the right side and found Swan streaking through the middle of the Wildcats' defense where she launched a low shot inside the right post from just inside the box.
That was all she wrote as Daemen could not find the back of the net for the fourth time in conference play this season.
Marissa Sell picked up the win between the pipes for Roberts Wesleyan, making three saves in the process.
Prentice made five saves for Daemen as she filled in for regular starter
Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) who missed the game with an injury. For Prentice, it was her first action in net since last season's finale at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships.
Daemen placed five of their 10 shot attempts on frame, four of which came in the opening period. Roberts Wesleyan had seven shots on goal out of 10 total attempts.
The Wildcats host Mansfield University of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference under the lights this Tuesday, Oct. 14. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
