Queens Stops Women's Soccer



FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team suffered its third straight setback, dropping a 3-1 decision to host Queens College today in East Coast Conference action at QC Soccer Field.  With tthe loss, Daemen is left still searching for its first league win of the season at 0-5-1, while falling to 3-10-1 overall.  Queens, meanwhile, picked up its first ECC win of 2014 (1-4-1) while jumping to 3-7-2 overall.

Erin Vernillo got Queens on the board in the 24th minute, but her tally was answered by one from Daemen freshman Rose Carboni (Endicott, N.Y./Union Endicott) to knot the score at one-apiece.  Carboni's marker, the first of her career, came on a free kick in the 33rd minute.

Shortly thereafter, Queens went ahead 2-1 when Deanna Hagen pounced on a rebound and scored in the 37th minute after Taylor Bonnano's initial shot hit the post. 

The Knights added an insurance goal late in the game as Courtney LoCurcio's corner kick found the head of Bonnano who put it to the back of the net in the 82nd minute to provide the final margin.

Queens outshot the Wildcats 15-4, with Daemen's only shot on goal coming on Carboni's score.

Juli Prentice (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) was back between the pipes for Daemen, making five saves.

Daemen looks to breakthrough in ECC play when they visit Molloy College this Sunday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m.
