Mackenzie DonahueAMHERST, N.Y. - Men's soccer player Cole Beale (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) and cross country runner Mackenzie Donahue (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) have been named Daemen College's Bedore Tours Student-Athletes of the Month for September.
After scoring once in 17 games last season, Beale, a 5-foot-10 sophomore forward, scored four goals in September, helping Daemen win three of their first seven outings this season. Â He opened the year by scoring the game-winning goal in Daemen's 2-1 road victory over the College of St. Rose on September 6. Â He then added Daemen's lone tally in a hard-luck 2-1 defeat to Slippery Rock University on September 13, before registering a pair of goals, including the game-winner, during the Wildcats' 3-1 win over Gannon University three days laster. Â The two-goal outing vs. Gannon was the first multi-goal game of Beale's career.
Presently, Beale leads the team in goals, game-winning goals and shots on goal (10). Â His four goals rank seventh in the East Coast Conference so far this season.
Donahue, a 5-foot-2 sophomore, opened the season with back-to-back top-10 finishes, giving her a streak of eight consecutive such performances. Â Donahue finished the Le Moyne Alumni Short Course Invitational, a 4K race, in sixth place with a time of 15:11.97 back on September 6. Â She went on to finish in fourth place at the Penn State Behrend Invitational on September 13, running that race, a more traditional 5K, in 19:36.4.
Donahue's string of top-10 finishes was snapped at the ultra-competitive Harry F. Anderson Invitational on September 27, although she still came in as the Wildcats' top scorer in the race, finishing in 28th place with a season-best time of 19:18.9.
This selection is Donahue's second for Student-Athlete of the Month. Â She last
earned the honor for September of 2013.
