WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sophomore Ever Guevera Alvarez (Woodbridge, Va.) made six saves and three different players netted a goal, as the University of the District of Columbia posted a 3-0 victory over Daemen College here today in East Coast Conference men's soccer action.
District of Columbia snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 8-6-1 overall and evened its league record to 4-4-0. Daemen dropped to 5-8-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the ECC.
UDC outshot the Wildcats 11-3 in the first half and took a 2-0 lead into halftime. The host Firebirds opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when junior Elio Hernandez (Germantown, MD) scored his fourth goal of the year. The hosts doubled their lead 10 minutes later when freshman Liam Haycock (Stafford, England) netted his first career goal. The Firebirds secured the win when Nenad Smiljanic (Barnsley, England) scored an unassisted goal with 12:25 left to play in the second half.
Senior Matt Daddario (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) went the distance in net for the Wildcats and made four saves. UDC got a solid effort from Guevera Alvarez, who was making his first career start in place of the injured Louis Connor.
Daemen is idle until next Friday (Oct. 31) when it hosts New York Institute of Technology in a league match.
