Jordan Greene (Fort Edward, N.Y./South Glens Falls) went 4-for-5 from beyond the arc to score a team-high 20 points in just 20 minutes of play off the bench to lead the Daemen College men's basketball team to a 111-72 victory over East Coast Conference opponent Molloy College this afternoon. Daemen improved to 16-6 on the year and 13-3 in conference play with their twelfth straight conference win as well as their ninth straight win overall while Molloy dropped to 11-10 on the season (8-5 ECC).
This was the second game this season the Wildcats scored over 100 points as they matched their season high from a 111-90 victory over Ohio Valley University on Nov. 8
th in the opening round of the Knee Center Classic. The win also continues Daemen's home winning streak to 32 straight which is the longest among all NCAA Divison II teams and the second longest active home winning streak in the nation among NCAA schools.
All twelve Wildcats scored in the win over Molloy as
Kadeem Johnson (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) repeated yet another remarkable game as he recorded a double-double scoring 18 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. Senior
Casey Sheehan (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena) added 17 points and seven assists while teammate
Gerald Beverly (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) contributed 16 points and three blocked shots.
Uchechi Ogbonna (Hicksville, N.Y./Erie CC) was one rebound shy of a double-double chipping in 14 points and nine boards to the Daemen win.
Senior point guard
Mark Coppola (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) also contributed four points and a team high nine assists while
Aaron Davis (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) added seven points.
John Petrucelli, who was voted the ECC Preseason Player of the Year, paced the Golden Lions with 18 points and six rebounds. Teammate Matt McLeod chipped in 12 points and Charlie Marquardt also added 10 points to the Molloy effort.
The two teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the game as the visitors held an 8-4 lead after a layup by Tyler Hammett with 17:21 remaining in the half. The Wildcats then took off never looking back. A three ball from Greene at the 14:01 mark started a 7-0 spurt for the Wildcats which was capped by a layup from Johnson leaving the score 20-9 (13:13). Another long ball from Greene in the final seconds of the half gave Daemen a 31-point lead, 58-27, to go into intermission.
Daemen kept the momentum rolling off an alley-op from Sheehan to Beverly to open up the second half. The Wildcats held onto the lead at 90-52 after a steal and layup from
Supreme Hannah (Rochester, N.Y. / Eastridge HS) at the 9:54 mark. The Wildcats scored their largest lead of the night, 101-56, after a three pointer from
Kyle Clifford (West Seneca, N.Y. /St. Francis) with 7:11 remaining in the game. A layup by
Troy Nowak (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park HS) provided the final margin leaving the score 111-72.
Daemen shot a blazing 65.6-percent (21-32) in the first half and 59.4-percent (41-69) for the game, while the Lions connected on just 38.2-percent (26-68) of their shots for the game. The Wildcats finished with a 47-27 edge in rebounds, 52-38 advantage in points in the paint and recorded 24 assists on the game. Daemen held the edge in points off turnovers (25-14) and fast break points (24-6). Daemen also made 8-of-13 three pointers in the game while they went 5-for-6 (83.3-percent) from beyond the arch in the first half.
Daemen returns to action Sunday (Feb. 9) when it hosts Queens College in an ECC game at 3 p.m. The Wildcats posted a 90-77 win at Queens earlier this year.
