Box Score OAKDALE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team suffered a stinging 2-0 defeat today in their East Coast Conference season opener vs. Dowling College. With the loss, the Wildcats' fourth straight, Daemen drops to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in ECC play this season, while the host Golden Lions improved to 2-2-1 overall, remaining unbeaten in their last three outings after opening the regular season with two straight losses.
Dowling's Kayla Reyes got the hosts on the board early, striking home a one-touch shot off a crossing feed from Allie Merrill in the 11th minute of the contest. For Reyes, it was her first goal of the season.
Then, shortly before halftime, the Golden Lions picked up an insurance goal from Dayna Galli, her second of the season, which put the hosts up by two in the 44th minute. Kristin Muir picked up an assist on the play.
The two teams played to a scoreless second half to provide the final margin.
Dowling's Melissa Guglielmo was called upon to make just one save to earn the shutout. Meanwhile, Daemen's
Kathryn Haessner (Moravia, N.Y./Moravia) made six stops between the pipes to keep it close for the Wildcats.
Daemen returns to ECC action when they visit the University of Bridgeport for a 12 p.m. kickoff this Sunday, Sept. 21.
