10/31/2015 2:37:00 PM

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – History did not repeat itself for the Daemen College women's volleyball team as they fell to Molloy College in a five-game battle at Quealy Gymnasium (26-24, 24-26, 25-22, 24-26, 10-15).  The teams met earlier in the season on October 2 in yet another five-set match where Daemen was able to come out on top, but it was not in the cards for the Wildcats today.

The pair of losses on the weekend will knock the Wildcats under .500 with a 12-13 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the conference.  Daemen remains in the number four spot in East Coast Conference standings.  Molloy sits in seventh place while this win bumps them up to 3-8 in the conference and 5-19 overall.

Ashley Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) led the Wildcats with 22 kills and a pair of aces.  Amber Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) and Ye Wang (Beijing, China/Hachioji Jissen) combined for 28 kills in a losing effort while Amber led the team with 18 digs.

Cassie Palmed paced Molloy with 22 kills while Jeanne Reinis tallied 13.  Dakota O'Neill paved the way with 21 digs while Ally De Krufy helped out with 58 assists.

Daemen opened the first set by gaining and early lead of 7-3 by taking advantage of Molloy's errors at the net.  Molloy would tie the game at 17-17 and gain the lead for the first time in the set with a kill from Reinis followed by an ace from Grace Cookson.  It was a kill from Jenna Reeser (Amherst, N.Y./Sweet Home) that brought the lead back for Daemen before Amber Drzymala buried a hard kill to the right back corner to end the set, 26-24.

Molloy answered by with a dominating 12-5 lead to start the second set.  The Lions were able to put away three aces in this spurt.  Daemen was able to gain the lead with a seven-point spurt where Ashley Drzymala hammered away with three kills.  The Wildcats were up 24-21 before the Lions went on a five-point run to end the second set, 26-24 in their favor.

The third set was back-and-forth while neither team was able to accumulate more than three points at a time.  The Drzymala sisters both tallied three kills in this set while Wang put down two kills and a huge block with the help of Reeser before a kill by freshman Kailey Ballou (Eden, N.Y./Eden) ended the third set for Daemen, 25-23, to give them the advantage in the match.

The teams were tied at nine different points during the fourth set.  Reinis was able to end the fourth set for the Lions at 26-24 to even the score at two games apiece.

A kill from Wang followed by an ace from Paige Recore (Pennelville, N.Y./John C. Birdlebough) put Daemen ahead 2-1 early in the final set of the game.  Molloy answered back with four straight points to gain them a lead that they would not look back from.  Reinis tallied another kill that was followed by a service ace while Palmer put down a kill to have the final say of the game. Molloy would win the final set 15-10.

Katie McKrell (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) totaled 58 assists in the losing effort.  This marks her seventh game with at least 40 helpers this season.

Each team totaled 25 hitting errors but Molloy was able to surpass Daemen by four kills to win the match.

Daemen will continue league play on Saturday, November 7 against New York Institute of Technology at home in the Lumsden Gymnasium.
