Institute of Technology (21-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22, 16-18). NYIT,who was picked as the favorite to win the ECC this year and 2015 East Region champion, improves to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference with today's win. Daemen falls to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the conference. The Wildcats were led by sophomore Ashley Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) and Courtney Scanlan (Ellicotville, N.Y. / Stony Brook University), both posted double-double performances. Ashley Drzymala recorded a career-high 25 kills and added 17 digs in her sixth double-double of the season. Scanlan registered her first career double-double with 12 kills and ten digs. She also tallied a match-high six aces. Bailey Dolegowski (Marilla, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) paced the Daemen offense, registering 48 assists. Daemen's defense was led by libero Kailey Ballou (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and outside hitter Amber Drzymala (West Seneca, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster), they had 19 and 17 digs respectively. Three players reached double digits in kills for NYIT, Tiffany Verni (Patchaogue, N.Y.) led the way with a team-high 18. Karolina Moderova (Zalesie, Slovakia), Preseason Player of the Year, had 17 kills and 18 digs, good for a double-double. Reigning ECC Setter of the Year, Allison Fowler (Centennial, Colo.) dished out a match-high 50 helpers. The teams traded points to open the match and found themselves tied 7-7 in the early going. Daemen would take the 13-10 lead, ignited by two kills from Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y./Eden). However, the Bears rallied off six unanswered points to retake the lead 16-13. Daemen would stay within three points the rest of the way, but it was not enough as the Bears took the set 25-21. NYIT registered 5 blocks in the opening victory. NYIT jumped out to an early 6-3 advantage in the second, capitalizing on Daemen errors. Sydney MacInnis (Superior, Colo./Fairview) served three straight points for the Wildcats to level the score 7-7. The Bears created distance with a 15-10 lead after Moderova nailed down a kill. NYIT took the biggest lead of the match 21-13 on a service ace by Karley Brewster (Perry, Ohio). Three uninterrupted points by the Wildcats brought Daemen back within six,but it was not enough to impede the Bears, they finished the set 25-18. Daemen came out strong in the third set and was able to keep NYIT under control early. Four service aces by Scanlan ignited seven straight points for the Wildcats. The lead surged to 10-1 fueled by kills from both Drzymala sisters and Meghan Ballou. The Wildcats went on to build a 20-8 lead, however, the Bears strung together six points to narrow the lead 22-16. Rachel Stephenson (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) put down a block to steal the final point and set 25-17. The fourth set was back and forth action early, the two teams tied five different occasions (4-4, 6-6, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10). The Wildcats took the lead 13-10, exploiting NYIT errors. A kill from Rachel Guida (Huntington, N.Y.) would keep the Bears within 2 points (15-17). The Wildcats went on to string together four straight points to deepen the gap. NYIT continued to claw back with three straight kills to trail 22-24, but Ashley Drzymala sealed the deal after nailing down the final point. The fifth and deciding set went down to the wire as the score stood even 11-11. Two kills from the Drzymala sisters put the Wildcats ahead 14-12. However, the Bears fought back on a kill from Verni and used a Daemen mistake to tie it up 14-14. The final set would end in favor of NYIT 18-16 after a Fowler kill. Today's match marks the eighth time the two teams have faced off. NYIT now leads the series 6-2, and has won the last six meetings. The Wildcats host Long Island University Post tomorrow, October 2, at 12:00 p.m. to finish off the weekend in conference play.
