ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat to home-standing Molloy College in East Coast Conference action this afternoon at the RVC Sports Complex.
The loss snapped Daemen's two-game unbeaten streak as they move to 3-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in ECC play. Â Molloy, which was picked fifth in the ECC preseason poll, jumped over .500 in league play (2-1-0) and to 3-5-1 overall.
Molloy's Kristen Cummings put the hosts on the board just eight minutes into the contest. Â She got her head to corner kick which was booted by Katlyn Merino and placed the ball into the middle of the Daemen goal.
After nearly 50 minutes, Merino pounced on a rebound inside the six-yard box and scored to put the Lions ahead 2-0.
That score would hold up throughout as the Lions avenged a 1-0 overtime loss to the Wildcats last season.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Jackie Wescott (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) made 11 saves to keep the Wildcats in contention today. It marked Wescott's third game this season with at least 10 saves and her 55 saves this season rank second in the ECC.
Redshirt-senior
Alexis Koral (Williamsville, N.Y./William Smith College) put up four shot attempts to pace the Daemen offense, while senior
Kelly DuVall (Addison, N.Y./Addison) managed three.
MC's Brianna Wilson was credited with four saves to record the shutout.
Molloy out-shot Daemen 22-12 in the contest, placing 13 shots on goal to Daemen's five.
Daemen returns home to face longtime rival Roberts Wesleyan College this Wednesday, October 5.
