Daemen Heads To St. Michael's For Non-League Clash

ON THE SIDELINES
Daemen: Dan Dolan enters his eighth season as the head coach at Daemen where he's led the program to an average of nearly 10 wins per season...from 2010 through 2013, Dolan led the Wildcats to four straight double-figure win seasons, winning 62-percent of their contests in that span...last season was the program's most successful since transitioning to NCAA Division II, as Dolan led the Wildcats to a team-record four ECC wins to finish in fifth place in the final league standings, just one spot back of a conference tournament berth...during the Wildcats' transition period, Dolan led the program to three straight appearances in the USCAA national championship game, winning the title in 2012.
   
DAEMEN SCOUTING REPORT (3-5-2, 1-3-1 ECC)
Daemen returns 15 players from last year's team that finished 7-10-1 overall and 4-5-0 in the East Coast Conference…eighth-year head coach Dan Dolan has his team coming off its most successful season since making the transition to NCAA Division II and the East Coast Conference...the returning core is led by junior back Rose Carboni who anchors the Wildcat defense...she was a third-team All-ECC selection last season...also back are six off the team's top seven point-producers from 2015, including junior forward Stephanie Zurales (6 gls, 5 asts, 17 pts) and senior midfielder Alexis Koral (5 gls, 2 asts, 12 pts) who produced double-figure points...Zurales' point total tied her for 11th among all ECC players...starting goalkeeper Meaghan O'Leary also returns after starting all 18 games last season as a true freshman...she finished third among all ECC net-minders with 87 saves last season...Daemen was picked to finish seventh in the ECC preseason poll...Daemen opened the 2016 season by going 3-3-1 over their first seven outings, but have hit the skids of late, going 0-2-1 since Sept. 30...the Wildcats are coming off a 4-1 loss to rival Roberts Wesleyan earlier this week...Sarah Britton netted her second goal of the season in the loss...injuries have taken their toll of late as Zurales and Carboni have each missed time of late, and O'Leary has yet to make her season debut...newcomers Kalyn Compeau (3 gls) and Jamie Boyar (2 gls, 2 asts) have paced the Daemen offense with six points apiece...the freshman Boyar also leads the team in total shots (23) and shots on goal (13), and she's one of just three players to start all 10 games thus far...the other two are senior midfielder Kelly DuVall and sophomore back Alex Valenti...DuVall shares the team lead in assists with two...defensively, it's been sophomore Jackie Wescott who's gotten the lion's share of work between the pipes with starts in nine of Daemen's 10 outings...she currently ranks second in the ECC in total saves (59) and fourth in save percentage (.797).
   
ST. MICHAEL'S SCOUTING REPORT (2-8-0, 2-6-0 NE-10)
St. Michael's is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference...the Purple Knights are led by Wendy Elles who is in her fourth season at the helm after coming over from Division III Lyndon State College where she served as head coach for four seasons...SMC returns 13 players from its 2015 roster which achieved an overall record of 1-15-1 and an NE-10 mark of 0-14...the Purple Knights' leading scorers among the returners are seniors Michaela Horne and Alyssa Keeler who posted identical stat lines of two goals, two assists and six points last season...sophomore goalkeeper Megan LeCours is SMC's most experienced returning net-minder having logged over 600 minutes between the pipes last season when she posted team-bests in goals against average (1.33) and save percentage (.809)...the Purple Knights were picked 15th in the NE-10 preseason poll...SMC opened the season with just one win over their first nine outings, downing conference foe Merrimack on Sept. 10...the Purple Knights snapped a six-game losing streak with a 1-0 (OT) win over conference foe American International earlier this week...Horne's free kick from 25 yards out found its way to the back of the net as the "golden goal", delivering SMC's first overtime victory since Oct. 20, 2012...Keeler has scored two of the team's five goals this season and she leads the team with four points...Horne leads the Purple Knights in shots (14) and shots on goal (5)...LeCours has seen the bulk of the work in goal, posting a 2.52 goals against average and a .648 save percentage.
