Dolegowski & Apostol Earn ECC Weekly Accolades

AMHERST, N.Y.- Daemen College volleyball players Bailey Dolegowski (Marilla, N.Y./St. Mary's of Lancaster) and Cristina Apostol (Bucharest, Romani/Targu Mures) have earned weekly honors from the East Coast Conference for the week of October 31 through November 6.  Dolegowski has been named the ECC Setter of the Week while Apostol claimed ECC Rookie of the Week honors.  The announcement was made via the league's weekly report which was released late this afternoon from conference headquarters in Central Islip, N.Y.

Dolegowski and Apostol played key roles in helping Daemen to a straight-set win (25-15, 25-20, 25-18) over four-time defending league champion University of Bridgeport last Saturday, November 5 in the Wildcats' only action of the week.  The win, Daemen's 12th straight, clinched at least a share of the ECC regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming ECC Tournament for the Wildcats.  By earning the No. 1 seed, Daemen was awarded the right to host the tournament which will take place at Lumsden Gymnasium on November 18-19.

Dolegowski, a 5-foot-8 freshman setter, posted her 11th double-double of the season in the win.  She doled out a match-high 35 assists offensively, while adding 11 digs to aid a defensive effort that limited the Purple Knights to a hitting percentage of .081.  Six of Dolegowski's double-doubles have come in the last seven matches and the Wildcats are 9-2 this season when she doubles up.

The young setter leads all ECC players in total assists (879) this season, while ranking third in assists per set (9.35).  She's also posted 38 service aces which ranks fourth in the league.

This is Dolegowski's fourth weekly honor this season.  She was previously named ECC Setter of the Week for September 12-19, and she's also been a two-time ECC Rookie of the Week recipient (August 29-September 5; September 26-October 2).

Apostol, a 6-foot-2 freshman middle blocker, becomes the third Daemen player to earn ECC Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining Dolegowski and outside hitter Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y./Eden) who earned the honor for October 3-9.  Daemen is one of just two teams to have multiple players earn the award, and Daemen's four total Rookie of the Week selections leads the league.

Apostol hammered home 10 kills in the win over Bridgeport - her second match this season with double-figure kills.  The offensive production came on just 16 attempts with a hitting percentage of .563.  She also added a match-high four blocks.

The former Romanian Junior National Team member ranks fifth on the team with 112 kills this season, while posting 36 blocks which is second only to Ballou's 40.

Dolegowski, Apostol and the Wildcats closeout the regular season with a pair of matches this week.  Daemen can sew up the outright regular season ECC title with a win Thursday at longtime rival Roberts Wesleyan College before returning home for the regular season finale vs. Mercy on Sunday.
