READING, Pa. - The Daemen College women's bowling team got back to tournament action today for the first time since mid-October by participating in the Golden Bear Classic hosted by Kutztown University at Bowl-O-Rama. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they faltered in all five of their matchups today, all of which were scored via Baker format.
Included in today's results were a pair of losses to top-25 programs, falling to No. 22 Sacred Heart University 892-771 in their opener, and to No. 19 Saint Francis College-Brooklyn 896-720 in their penultimate match of the day. Additional losses came against Mount Aloysius College (860-784), Caldwell University (821-682) and Saint Peter's University (828-769). Caldwell, Mount Aloysius and Sacred Heart ranked as three of the top four teams in total pinfall today. Daemen had come into today's tournament as winners in five of their last six matches, but today's results drop the Wildcats to 9-16 overall in this the program's inaugural season.
Daemen carried a pins per frame average of 14.3 in the five matches today, and they rank 10th out of the 12 competing teams in total pinfall (3,696).
The Wildcats were paced by freshman
Jess Cunningham (Watervliet, N.Y./Watervliet) with 17.5 pins per frame. She was backed up by redshirt-freshman
Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) who carried an average of 16.2 pins per frame.
Play at the Golden Bear Classic continues tomorrow and into Sunday. Daemen will face the host Kutztown Golden Bears, the No. 15 team in the country, in tomorrow's opener. Additional opponents tomorrow include Morgan State University, Franklin Pierce University, Felician College, New Jersey City University and Salem International University.
