AMHERST, N.Y. - Junior long distance runner
Jeremy Rushok (Akron, N.Y./Buffalo State College) headlines three honorees from the Daemen College men's indoor track and field team on the 2016 All-East Coast Conference teams, earning first-team recognition in the 5,000 meter run. Daemen's
Niko Jemmison (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Generation), a junior sprinter, and
Kevin Roginson (Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), a sophomore long distance runner, each earned second-team All-ECC honors in the 60 meter dash and 5,000 meter run, respectively. All-league honors are handed out by virtue of athletes' performances at the conference championship meet held on February 26 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. with the top two finishers in each event gaining first-team All-ECC honors, and the third and fourth place finishers being second-team All-ECC recipients.
Rushok recorded the highest finish of any Daemen athlete at the event, placing second in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:57.15, four seconds off the pace set by race winner and fellow first-team honoree Justin Bender of Roberts Wesleyan College (15:53.87). The performance marked Rushok's first ascent to first-team all-league honors for indoor track and field. He had previously been a two-time second-team All-ECC honoree at the 3,000 meter distance.
Roginson backed up Rushok in the 5,000 meter run, finishing fourth with a time of 16:04.78 to earn second-team All-ECC honors.
Jemmison finished fourth in the 60 meter dash to earn the initial second-team All-ECC accolade of his career. He set a new team record in the preliminary round, running that race in 7.12 seconds to qualify for the finals where crossed the finish line in 7.17 seconds.
In addition to its all-league honorees, the ECC announced that Saint-Jacob Diodenet of Saint Thomas Aquinas College was named the Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Also, Merl McGinnis of Roberts Wesleyan College was named the ECC Men's Track and Field Coach of the Year after leading the Redhawks to their second-straight conference title. A full list of all-conference honorees is available on the
ECC website.
