BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country competed in the Canisius Alumni Classic held this afternoon at Delaware Park.
The Wildcats finishing third out of four non-NCAA Division I teams. The 8K race featured nine total teams, including five NCAA Division I affiliates, and was scored separately for Division I and non-Division I teams.
Daemen amassed 78 points in the non-Division I team standings today. Waterloo University claimed the non-Division I title with 19 points. The University at Buffalo topped the Division I portion of the standings. Jeffrey Antolos of host Canisius College finished first among the 108 contestants with a time of 24:55.6.
The individual results included all entrants regardless of affiliation. Sophomore Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore) was the top Daemen finisher, as he placed 56th with a time of 28:04.9. It was quite an improvement from last year's race for Bodnar, who finished 108th out of 138 runners last fall with a time of 29:40.9.
Junior Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) also made a significant improvement from last year, as he finished 65th overall with a time of 28:15.4. He posted a time of 30:46.8 last fall.
Junior Timothy Poole (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), freshman Mike Swiniarski (Akron, N.Y./Akron) and redshirt freshman Cale Silvestri (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois Central) also contributed to Daemen's team score. Poole placed 74th (28:36.2), Swiniarski finished 79th (28:49.6) and Silvestri came in 82nd (29:01.0).
Redshirt junior Zach Barnes (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown CC) also competed for the Wildcats today and he finished 100th with a time of 32:16.2.
Daemen returns to action next weekend (Oct. 21) when it travels to Old Westbury, N.Y. to take part in the East Coast Conference Championships.
