For Communications Women's Tennis Falls In ECC Road Match BOX SCORE WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Playing their first East Coast Conference road match since mid-September, the Daemen College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to host St. Thomas Aquinas College today at the Washington Township Tennis Center. The loss drops Daemen to 7-7 this season, including a 1-4 mark in ECC action. STAC picked up its second league win in as many days to improve to 5-8 overall and an even 3-3 in the ECC. The Spartans were coming off a 5-4 defeat of visiting Roberts Wesleyan College in Friday's dual match. STAC took a 2-1 lead in the match with a pair of wins in doubles action. Sara O'Brien and Lovisa Engstrand won at the top of the lineup, 8-2, over DC's Lorissa Yuen (Portland, Ore.) and Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.). The Spartans were 8-2 winners in the No. 3 doubles slot as well with Katarina Lopez and Carolyn Kopf besting DC's Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) and Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y.). Daemen got on the board with an 8-6 win in the No. 2 doubles position. Freshman Giovanna Paschoalin (Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil) and senior Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) ousted STAC's Nyenyeri Kanefu and Cassandra Rohr. Needing four wins in singles play, Daemen picked up only half that many. Rohr, Engstand, Lopez and O'Brien scored points for STAC in singles positions two through five to secure the dual match victory. Yuen was the better top-of-lineup player today, besting STAC's Kanefu 6-1, 6-1. The win gives Yuen an 11-7 singles mark this season, pulling her into a tie with Stasiuk for the team lead in singles victories. The pair is just three wins shy of the program record for singles wins in a season (14 set by Hayle Scanlan in 2016-17), and just two wins shy of the program record for singles wins by a freshman (13 by Ringler in 2014-15). Robins downed Copf in the No. 6 singles position 6-1, 6-4. She's now won two-straight singles matches to improve to 9-7 on the season. Robins is one win shy of reaching double-figure singles victories for the second-straight season. Daemen looks to regroup with a non-conference road match Sunday at Caldwell University.Print Friendly Version
