For Communications Wildcats Put Offense On Full Display In 5-1 Road Win BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - The Daemen College women's soccer team had their biggest offensive explosion in over two calendar years, getting a pair of goals from Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) and single tallies from Alex Valenti (Clarence, N.Y.), Alex Juliano (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Lindsay Ciaramella (St. George, Ont.) while cruising to a 5-1 non-conference win on the road over Bloomfield College today. Daemen, which was coming off a disappointing 4-0 loss at Queens College earlier this week, improved to 8-6-1 on the season with today's victory. It marks the first time that Daemen has reached eight wins in a season since going 10-10 in 2013, and the five goals scored today are the most Daemen has put up since a 6-0 shutout of Alfred State College on Oct. 13, 2015. Bloomfield, an affiliate of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, dropped to 2-2 in non-league games and to 5-10 overall this season. Under first-year head coach Michael Minielli, the Bears have seen remarkable improvement after posting an 0-16-1 record in 2016. Boyar notched back-to-back tallies in the first half to put the Wildcats in control - her team-leading 10th and 11th markers of the season. She got behind the BC defense after taking a pass from Ciaramella, and scored at the 5:25 mark. Later, she scored at the 21:00 mark off a feed from Juliano. Valenti, a junior defender who was playing in the 49th game of her career, notched the first goal of her career, an unassisted tally at the 42:43 mark to give the Wildcats a three-goal cushion going into halftime. The score remained 3-0 until Boyar returned the favor by finding Juliano for her second goal of the season at the 71:18 mark. Bloomfield got on the board just 24 seconds later as Patricia Perischetty scored off a feed from Brigid Dwyer. Ciaramella's unassisted goal, her first of the season, at the 87:49 mark rounded out the scoring today. Daemen owned a 27-15 advantage in shot attempts, including a 15-6 edge in shots on goal. It's just the fourth game this season that Daemen outshot their opponent, and their first time doing so since Oct. 4 vs. Roberts Wesleyan College. Freshman goalkeeper Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y.) got the start between the pipes for Daemen. She made four saves in the first half before giving way to classmate Maddie Flores (Seattle, Wash.) for the second. Flores made a single save in her 45 minutes of action. Alison Corino made a game-high 10 saves for the Bears. "It was good to see us come back after that difficult result at Queens just a few days ago," said ninth-year head coach Dan Dolan who earned his 79th career win today. "We got a lot of help with some of the conference games that were played today, so right now we're really looking forward to our last league game at Molloy next week with a shot to get into the conference tournament." The help Dolan was referring to was Molloy College's 2-1 win in overtime against University of Bridgeport, as well as a 1-0 overtime win for Queens over N.Y. Institute of Technology. The Wildcats presently sit tied with NYIT for fifth place in the league standings, but can propel themselves into position for an ECC Tournament berth with a win at Molloy next week and some additional help from around the league. The top four teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the ECC Tournament which gets underway Nov. 1.
