The Wildcats were ousted by the Bears in four sets (19-25, 25-23, 15-25, 24-26). In their first conference loss of the season, the Wildcats were held to a slim .091 hitting despite playing even with the Bears in all other statistical categories. With the defeat, Daemen falls to 7-9 overall with a 3-1 conference mark. NYIT, this year's league-favorite, improved to 13-5 on the season and evened its league record at 2-2. The loss today snaps the Wildcat's 14-game ECC regular season win streak. The Wildcats were led by sophomore Meghan Ballou (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) and redshirt-junior Courtney Scanlan (Ellicotville, N.Y. / Stony Brook University), both posted double-digit kill performances. Ballou recorded a team-high 17 kills and notched 15 digs in her 7th double-double of the season. Scanlan tallied 14 kills and added two service aces in the loss. Rookie Allison Post (Windsor, Calif. / Windsor) rounded out the Wildcat attack with seven kills. Freshman libero Georgia Wicker (Woodstock, Ill. / Woodstock) registered a season and match-high 26 digs to govern the Daemen defense. Junior Kailey Ballou (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) and senior Katie McKrell (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) each added six digs in the defeat. Rookie middle blocker Tirzah Peters (Amherst, N.Y. / Sweet Home) was a force at the net for the Wildcats, recording team-high four blocks. McKrell dished out 32 assists and posted three service aces, while sophomore Sydney MacInnis (Superior, Colo. / Fairview) added eight helpers and one service ace. Karolina Moderova (Zalesie, Slovakia) had 19 kills and 11 digs to lead the Bears, while Tiffany Verni (Patchogue, N.Y.) posted 13 kills in the victory. The teams traded points to open the match and found themselves tied 7-7 in the early going. NYIT would use a six-point run to take the 12-7 lead; three of the points were errors committed by the Wildcats. Daemen closed the gap 15-17 after scoring four-straight points on the serve of Jenn Heritz, but it was not enough to catch the conference favorite. The Bears outscored the Wildcats 8-4 in the final points, taking the first set 25-19. In the second set, the two squads battled back and forth once again for an early 8-8 tie. The Bears used a 5-1 run to break the stalemate and take the 13-10 advantage. Daemen evened the score once again (19-19) on a kill from Scanlan followed by an NYIT attacking error. The Wildcats continued to claw back, outscoring NYIT 6-4 to close out the game 25-23. Scanlan, Post, Ballou and Heritz all notched kills in the run. Daemen was unable to put together another set victory, dropping the third and fourth frames 15-25 and 24-26. Despite winning 22-20 in the fourth set, NYIT rallied for the win to avoid a fifth and final set. The Wildcats continue East Coast Conference action tomorrow afternoon, facing their second 2016 ECC Tournament Qualifier in as many day, squaring off against LIU Post.
