Sharp Shooting Falcons Outlast The Wildcats

Sydney Jones Nets A Career High 18 Points

AMHERST, N.Y. – Notre Dame College shot an impressive 50-percent (16-for-32) from three-point range to capture the 82-75 victory over the Daemen College women's basketball team today in a non-conference match-up at Lumsden Gymnasium.

Notre Dame, a member of the Mountain East Conference, ran its winning streak to three-straight games and improved to 4-2 overall with a 2-0 conference mark.  Today's loss marks Daemen's third-consecutive defeat, dropping the Wildcat's overall record to 2-3.

Senior Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) totaled a team-high 23 points in 37 minutes of acting, marking her 24th career game with 20 or more points.  She went 9-for-17 (52.9%) from the field, 1-for-2 (50%) from behind the arc and 4-for-5 (80%) from the charity stripe.  Saba added six rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals in the loss.

Sophomore Sydney Jones (Clifton Springs, N.Y./Midlakes) netted a career-high 18 points, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the three-point line.  Redshirt freshman Tiara Filbert (Batavia, N.Y./Batavia) added nine points off the bench for the Wildcats, while junior Erin Sinnott (Oswego, Ill.) chipped in seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Sophomore standout Seina Adachi (Attica, Ohio) played 28 minutes and scored 28 points to lead the Falcons.  She hit six of Notre Damen's 16 total three-point buckets, posting an impressive 66.7% three-point field goal percentage.  Kim Cook (Middleburg Heights, Ohio), an All-MEC Second Team selection last season, notched 13 points, three steals and four rebounds for the Falcons.  NDC also got double-digit scoring from Kyleigh Ramlow (Toledo, Ohio) and Mackenzie Meckes (Avon, Ohio), the pair added 13 and 10 points respectively.

Notre Dame held a 16-8 lead with just under five minutes left in the first quarter, but the Wildcats used a 12-6 spurt to narrow the gap 22-20.  The run featured seven points from Saba, but Ramlow nailed a three at the buzzer giving NDC a 25-20 lead heading into the second quarter.

Daemen won the second quarter, outscoring the Falcons 23-11, with 12 of the 13 points coming in the paint.  The Wildcats took their first lead of the game with 3:29 left in the quarter, and extended their lead 43-36 on back-to-back trey-balls from Jones heading into the half.

After a 43-36 halftime lead, the Wildcats were outscored by the Falcons 7-28 and found themselves trailing 51-64 at the end of the third quarter.  Notre Dame went 7-for-12 from three-point range, good for a 58.3-shooting percentage, while Daemen shot 20% from the field in the third, their lowest quarter field-goal percentage of the game.

NDC extended their lead to 17-points in the fourth quarter (79-62), but Daemen didn't give up and fought back within nine points (72-81) with under a minute left to play.  The Wildcats were unable to stop Notre Dame's hot hand, and ultimately lost the game 82-75.  The Falcons fiery 50% three-point field goal percentage was higher than their overall field goal percentage (43.3%), a very tough feat to accomplish in the game of basketball.  Daemen finished the game 25-for-61 from the field (41%), 9-for-26 from beyond the arc (34.6%) and 16-for-21 (76,2%) from the charity stripe.

The Wildcats continue a three-game homestand this Saturday, November 28 in a non-conference battle against Le Moyne at 1:00 p.m.
