UB big man Nick Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) put in a layup just before the buzzer to give the hosts a 38-30 lead at the break.  That's as close as Daemen would get, however, as UB limited Daemen to just 25 percent shooting in the second half (7-for-28).  UB, which was recently picked as the favorite to win the Mid-American Conference East Division this season, was led by Perkins who posted a game-high 20 points. The 6-foot-8 junior forward, a preseason All-MAC East Division Team selection, shot 9-for-14 from the field and added six boards in 27 minutes of action. Newcomer Jeremy Harris (Greensboro, N.C.), a 6-foot-7 junior guard, registered a double-double (13 points, 13 rebounds), while junior guard C.J. Massinburg (Dallas, Texas) came off the bench to record 13 points and six rebounds in just 16 minutes. Redshirt freshman center Andrew Sischo (Guilderland, N.Y.) led four double-figure scorers for Daemen with 13 points. Seeing his first collegiate action, Sischo came off the bench to shoot 3-for-7 from the field and 6-for-10 from the charity stripe, while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Redshirt junior guard Nick Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) and redshirt sophomore guard Jay Sarkis (Rochester, N.Y.) scored 12 and 10 points, respectively. Both players missed the entire 2016-17 season with injuries, but returned to the starting lineup this evening. Sophomore guard Breon Harris (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including a highlight-reel-worth one-handed slam in traffic. For the game, UB enjoyed 41.7 percent shooting (30-for-72), including a 25-for-45 performance (55.6%) from inside the three-point arc. The Bulls converted 12-of-20 from the charity stripe (60 percent), a marked improvement after going 13-for-31 (41.9%) in an eight-point exhibition loss (80-72) at the University of Rhode Island last weekend. Daemen shot just 32.1 percent for the game (18-for-56), and a chilly 3-for-21 from long distance (14.3%). The Wildcats made good on 16 of their 26 free throw attempts (61.5%).  GAME NOTES: Today's game marked the third-straight season that Daemen and UB have met in exhibition action...UB won the previous two meetings, 87-68 (Nov. 6, 2015) and 87-82 in overtime (Nov. 4, 2016)...Daemen was without the services of redshirt junior guard/forward Deion Hamilton (injured)...Hamilton is the team's leading returning scorer (12.1 ppg).  Print Friendly Version
