Today's contest was Daemen's second in as many days as the Wildcats were coming off a 2-1 defeat of Walsh University yesterday. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 2-3 on the season, while Bloomsburg, a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, notched their first win of the 2017 campaign improving to 1-2 on the season. The Wildcats got off to a fast start, scoring the first two goals of the game in the opening 11 minutes of action against the Huskies. It marked the fourth-straight game that Daemen has scored first. Victor Lanje (Helsingborg, Sweden) took a shot from the top of the box that went soaring by the leaping Bloomsburg goalie Taylor Lesage (Collegeville, Pa.) and inside the top left post at the 8:46 mark. Lanje's goal today was the first of his career as a Wildcat. Less than two minutes later, freshman Finn Krueger (Neuried, Germany) struck for the Wildcats to give them the early 2-0 advantage. Krueger netted his second goal of the season after taking a feed from defensive standout Ross Stewart (Bangor, Northern Ireland). Bloomsburg responded immediately as sophomore Mike Bazadona III (Kingston, Pa.) notched his first goal of the season, squeaking a shot underneath Wildcat goalie Mitchell Coll (Phoenixville, Pa.) at the 11:07 mark, just 34 seconds after Krueger's tally. Kristian Aadnoy (Gjerdrum, Norway), who leads the Wildcats with four goals and nine points, gave Daemen the 3-1 lead halfway into the first period. The freshman forward buried one in the top left corner off a rebounded shot. Bloomsburg would climb back within one, heading into halftime down 3-2, when Carter Luckenbaugh (York, Pa.) connected with teammate Brian Kilcoyne (Bensalem, Pa.) at the 32:07 mark. The Huskies struck first in the second half, evening the score at 3-3. Bazadona snuck his second goal of the day past a scrambling Daemen keeper. Daemen jumped back out a 4-3 lead less than a minute after Bazadona's goal. Samuel Lockman (Luleaa, Sweden) ripped a shot from far out, soaring over the Huskie defense and net-minder, good for his second career-goal. However it was not enough as Bloomsburg put home two more goals to close the non-conference match-up. Kristopher Gross (Perkasi, Pa.) and Austin Transue (Langhorne, Pa.) found the back of the Daemen net to seal the 5-4 victory. Brage Wiik (Tromsoe, Norway) and Anthony Cupello (Rochester, N.Y.) gave the Wildcats scoring opportunities in the closing minutes, but could not capitalize. Lesage turned away two Daemen shots to pick up the win between the pipes. Coll made five saves for the Wildcats in a losing effort. Despite the loss, it was a noteworthy day for the Wildcats. The team scored four goals for just the fifth time this decade, and just the second time since the start of the 2012 season. Daemen now has 12 goals this season, all of which have been scored by freshmen. Up next, the Wildcats open East Coast Conference play with a road tilt at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, Sept. 16.
