Wildcats Even League Record With 8-1 Win At Molloy

WEST HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's tennis team snapped a two-match slide with an 8-1 win today over Molloy College in East Coast Conference action at the Hempstead Lake Indoor Tennis Center.

The win moves Daemen to 3-2 overall this season, and to an even 1-1 in ECC play. The host Lions dropped to 0-2 overall and in league play.

Daemen opened up a 2-1 lead following today's doubles matches. Giovanna Paschoalin (Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil) teamed with fellow freshman Christina Stasiuk (Lancaster, N.Y.) to pick up an 8-2 win over MC's Danielle Bloecker and Megan Scali in the second doubles position. Also, Jessica Robins (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and MacKenzie Robbins (Rome, N.Y.) scored an 8-5 victory in the third doubles position over Samantha Bloecker and Christie Catterson.

Needing just three wins in singles play to secure the dual-match victory, Daemen swept the six matches to make it a runaway. Paschoalin, Stasiuk, Robins and Lorissa Yuen (Portland, Ore.), Gretchen Ringler (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) and Morgan Park (Hamburg, N.Y.) all scored singles wins for the Wildcats today. Only one match, Park's 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Catterson, saw a Molloy player take more than two games in any given set.

Daemen is back in action next weekend (Sept. 15-17) at the Daemen Invitational Tournament at the Ellicott Tennis Courts.
