Women's Tennis Falls At Roberts Wesleyan

BOX SCORE

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Returning to dual-match play for the first time in nine days, the Daemen College women's tennis team suffered a 7-2 defeat at East Coast Conference rival Roberts Wesleyan College today at the RWC Tennis Courts.

The loss drops Daemen to an even 3-3 overall this season, while their league record moves to 1-2. It was Daemen's first dual-match since an 8-1 league victory at Molloy College on Sept. 10 as the Wildcats transitioned to tournament play for the Daemen Invitational this past weekend.

The host Redhawks, picked fifth in the ECC preseason poll, improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in league play with the five-point victory today.

Freshmen Lorissa Yuen (Portland, Ore.) and Giovanna Paschoalin (Sao Caetano Do Sul, Brazil) got the Wildcats off to a good start with a victory in the No. 1 doubles position. Yuen and Paschoalin, teaming together for the first time this season, downed RWC's Nthabi Mogopodi and Andrea Gallardo in a tight 9-7 affair.

But, that's all Daemen would get as the Redhawks took a 2-1 lead in the match at the completion of doubles play.

In singles play, only freshman Christina Stasiuk (Bowmansville, N.Y.) could break through for Daemen. She scored a 6-3, 6-4 win in fourth singles over Marousia Bosch. RWC swept the remaining five singles matches to seal the dual-match victory.

Daemen is back in tournament action this weekend at the prestigious Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional Tournament slated for Sept. 22-25 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens, N.Y.
