ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Daemen College men's cross country team posted an eighth-place finish today at the Harry F. Anderson Invitational held this morning on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.
Daemen accumulated 216 points in the team standings. Gannon University placed five runners among the top-20 finishers and claimed the team title with a score of 45. Host Roberts Wesleyan was a close second with 52 points, while SUNY Geneseo (65), SUNY Cortland (99) and Saint Bonaventure University (137) closed out the top-five.
Gannon sophomore Joseph Westrick (Pittsburgh, Pa.) topped the field of 183 runners, as he covered the 8K course in a time of 26:37.0.
Junior Lucas Canales (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), who posted a career-best time of 27:08.6 last weekend at the University at Buffalo Stampede Invitational, paced the Wildcats again today and placed 34th overall with a time of 28:17.3.
Sophomore Josh Bodnar (Fillmore, N.Y./Fillmore), junior Timothy Poole (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) and redshirt freshman Cale Silvestri (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois Central) also posted sub-29 minute times today. Bodnar, who was also coming off a career-best 8K time of 27:30.3, placed 45th with a time of 28:49.2. Poole came in right behind him with a career-best time of 28:51.1, while Silvestri nearly knocked two minutes off his time from last weekend and placed 51st with a time of 28:56.9.
Freshman Mike Swiniarski (Akron, N.Y./Akron) also contributed to Daemen's team score, as he placed 78th with a time of 30:12.2. Redshirt junior Zach Barnes (Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown CC) also competed for the Wildcats today and he finished 99th with a time of 31:04.5.
Daemen returns to action next weekend when it takes part in the Mike Woods Invitational hosted by SUNY Geneseo.
