Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Nationally-Ranked LIU-Post Brings Winning Streak To An End

AMHERST, N.Y. — Freshman Gabrielle Clark (Edmonds, Wash.) scored two goals to lead the nationally-ranked Long Island University Post women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Daemen College today at Karrer Field.

LIU-Post, which entered the game ranked 12th nationally and second in the East Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, improved to 6-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the East Coast Conference. The Pioneers were picked second in the ECC preseason poll. Daemen saw its four-game winning streak come to an end and dropped to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECC.

The first half saw limited scoring chances at both ends of the field. The Pioneers opened the scoring in the 19th minute when freshman Julia Duffy (Oceanside, N.Y.) scored off a feed from fellow rookie Shakila Sevanan (Kings Park, N.Y.).

The visitors took a 1-0 lead into the break, and doubled their lead just 10:16 into the second half when Clark scored her first of the game after she collected a rebound following a shot by Duffy and sent a high shot past Daemen net minder Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y./Lewiston-Porter).  Clark's second of the game was an unassisted effort, as she carried the ball through the middle of the pitch and sent a low shot past White with just over 25 minutes to play.

Daemen got on the board with just under 19 minutes left. Senior Alex Juliano (Hamburg, N.Y./Nardin Academy) created the scoring chance when she sent a pass to the center of the box, where freshman Celia de Pablo Esteban (Burgos, Spain) one-timed a shot past LIU-Post goalkeeper Hilevi Eklow (Varobacka, Sweden). It marked the third goal of the year for de Pablo Esteban.

LIU-Post held Daemen without a shot in the first half and the Pioneers finished with a 19-5 advantage in shots overall. The visitors also posted a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

White, who has started six of Daemen's seven games, finished with five saves and surrendered more than one goal for the first time all season. Eklow recorded one save for the Pioneers.

Daemen returns to action Tuesday (Sept. 26) when it hosts Goldey-Beacom College in a non-league game.
