For Communications Women's Soccer Tripped Up By Le Moyne AMHERST, N.Y. - Two goals in the span of 95 seconds late in the second half lifted visiting Le Moyne College to a 2-0 victory over Daemen College in non-conference women's soccer action today at Karrer Field. Daemen, playing its second of four-straight home contests to open the season, falls to 0-1-1 with the loss. Le Moyne, an affiliate of the Northeast-10 Conference which had dropped a 1-0 decision to Roberts Wesleyan College in its season opener last week, evened its record at 1-1. The Wildcats appeared to take a 1-0 lead early in the contest when freshman defender Kayla Goeddertz (Rochester, N.Y.) headed in a corner kick feed from classmate Celia de Pablo Esteban (Burgos, Spain), but the referee waived off the goal, citing an inability for Le Moyne goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia) to have the necessary freedom of moment on the play. Shortly thereafter, freshman forward Kayla Neumann (Wilson, N.Y.) found herself in a breakaway situation, but Cumika got a fingertip on Neumann's low shot attempt which pushed the ball just left of the goalpost. The game remained tied until Le Moyne capitalized on a corner kick opportunity at the 76:01 mark. Elizabeth Glynn's (Pittsford, N.Y.) crossing feed found the head of junior midfielder Kelsi Fredericks (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and the ball zipped to the back of the net. Just over a minute-and-a-half later, Glynn found a streaking Brielle Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y.) who notched the sixth goal of her career to give the guests a two-goal cushion. Daemen tried to rally and generated several solid chances late in the game. In the game's final minute, sophomore forward Jamie Boyar (Williamsville, N.Y.) sent a high shot over the outstretched arms of Cumika but it ricocheted off the crossbar. The rebound came out to Neumann who blasted a shot through traffic that was turned away by a Le Moyne defender with Cumika caught out of position. Cumika made one final save, her third of the day, on a shot by freshman Kaylyn Phillips (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) to seal her fifth shutout in a Le Moyne uniform. :Le Moyne held an 18-11 advantage in total shot attempts and a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. Daemen elected to split time between the pipes today between freshmen Katelin White (Lewiston, N.Y.) and Maddie Flores (West Seattle, Wash.). White made her second-straight start and was credited with five saves in the opening period. Flores made her collegiate debut and made one save in her 45 minutes of action. Daemen's season-opening home-stand continues Friday, Sept. 8 when Lake Erie College visits Karrer Field for a 4 p.m. kickoff. A special pre-game ceremony is planned to commemorate the official grand opening of Karrer Field following a months long renovation project on the natural grass playing surface which was completed this summer.
