Women's Bowling 10/11/2018 4:30:00 PM By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications Women's Bowling Opens 2018-19 Season This Weekend AMHERST, N.Y. - The Daemen College women's bowling team will open the 2018-19 season this weekend at the two-day Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament hosted October 13-14 by Kutztown University at Berks Lanes in Reading, Pa. The 2018-19 campaign marks the fourth season in team history, and the Wildcats are coming off their most successful season to date as they posted a 35-17 record, captured two tournament championships and placed fourth at the East Coast Conference Championships. The Wildcats are set to return all 10 members of their record-setting 2017-18 team: seniors Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y.) and Cassandra Johnson (Buffalo, N.Y.), juniors Katie Good (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Rachel Steele (Rensselaer, N.Y.), sophomores Madison Rogacki (Cheektowaga, N.Y.), Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.), Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.), Alex Syrotynski (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Alex Hasiotis (Rochester, N.Y.) and Megan Kidder (Akron, N.Y.). Newcomers Shayla Slomba (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Christina Aldridge (Webster, N.Y.), both freshmen, round out the team's 2018-19 roster. O'Hara and Johnson have each been with the program since its inception. The former posted a 16.68 pins-per-frame average in 185 Baker format frames last season. Good and Steele have each been fixtures in the lineup over their first two collegiate seasons. They were two of the team's three players to average better than 17.0 pins per frame in Baker format frames last season. Steele also posted a team-best 18.13 pins per frame over 130 traditional frames. Newberry is back after averaging a team-best 17.87 pins per frame in 364 Baker format frames as a rookie last season. She also recorded a team-best 188 strikes. While several of the student-athletes' faces remain the same, one prominent new face is that of head coach Carrie Racsumberger who brings a wealth of knowledge and bowling experience to the position. The Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament has become a fixture in the early part of the season for teams in the Northeast. The Wildcats will be making their third appearance at the event, and they've posted a 5-15 record over two prior appearances. The team's first-ever win came at this event, an 837-627 defeat of Coppin State University on October 17, 2015. Matchups for the two-day tournament will be announced prior to Saturday's opening round. The competition gets underway at 11 a.m. Saturday with each participating team bowling five Baker format matches. Play resumes at 9 a.m. Sunday with five traditional matches on the docket for each team. In addition to Daemen and Kutztown, teams competing this weekend are Adelphi University, Long Island University Brooklyn, Long Island University Post, Belmont Abbey College, Medaille College, Coppin State, Mount St. Mary's University, Roberts Wesleyan College, St. Francis College, St. Peter's College, St. Francis University, Wilmington University, Delaware State University, Duquesne University, Chestnut Hill College, Youngstown State University, Howard University, Caldwell College, Molloy College and Penn State Behrend.
