Women's Bowling 10/13/2018 6:57:00 PM By Mike Miranto, Sr. Associate A.D. for External Operations & Communications Wildcats Go 3-2 On Opening Day Of Bud Whitman Memorial READING, Pa. - The Daemen College women's bowling team opened the 2018-19 season by going 3-2 today at the Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament hosted by Kutztown University at Berks Lanes. The two-day tournament features 20 collegiate teams, all of whom competed in five Baker format matches today. Daemen's three wins came by a combined 24 pins. The Wildcats opened the day with back-to-back wins over Coppin State University (877-873) and Roberts Wesleyan College (753-743). A setback against No. 20 Duquesne University (663-623) followed, but the Wildcats got back on track with an 850-840 win over a St. Francis College (N.Y.) team that received top 25 votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association 2018-19 preseason poll. Daemen closed out the opening day of tournament play with a 744-705 loss to Bloomfield College. Junior Rachel Steel (Rensselaer, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats today with a 177.0 scoring average. She was backed up by classmate Katie Good (Hamburg, N.Y.) and sophomore Adrianna Pencek (Dunkirk, N.Y.) who posted averages of 168.6 and 162.9, respectively. Freshman Christina Aldridge (Webster, N.Y.) gave the squad some solid frames when inserted off the bench today as well. As a team, Daemen ranked 16th with a 158.6 scoring average. Mount St. Mary's University topped the tournament field with a 183.2 scoring average while going 5-0 today, the only team to get through the day unscathed. Tournament play resumes at 9 a.m. Sunday. Daemen opens the day by facing Mount St. Mary's. Additional opponents include No. 8 Delaware State University, Youngstown State University, Molloy College and Chestnut Hill College. The tournament capper comes against a Chestnut Hill team that is ranked 15th in the NTCA Division II/Division III preseason poll.
