Wildcats Break Even At Bud Whitman Memorial

Daemen Caps Weekend With Win Over Nationally-Ranked Chestnut Hill

READING, Pa. - The Daemen College women's bowling team wrapped up competition on day two of the Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament today by going 2-3 over five traditional matches at Berks Lanes. The tournament featured 20 collegiate teams and was hosted by Kutztown University.

The tournament marked the first competition of the year for the Wildcats, who went 3-2 during the opening round yesterday and stand at 5-5 on the season.

Daemen opened the day with an impressive 859-815 victory over Mount St. Mary's University (Md.), one of two teams that went unbeaten (5-0) during the opening round yesterday. The Wildcats followed up with a one-point (830-829) loss to nationally-ranked Delaware State University. The Hornets entered the tournament ranked No. 8 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) all-divisions preseason poll. The Wildcats then suffered back-to-back losses to Youngstown State University (868-815) and Molloy College (874-833). YSU is receiving votes in the NTCA all-divisions preseason poll, while Molloy is receiving votes in the NTCA Division II/III preseason poll. Daemen capped the weekend with an 819-804 win over Chestnut Hill University, which is ranked 15th in the NTCA Division II/III preseason poll.

Junior Rachel Steele (Rensselaer, N.Y.) capped a solid weekend and paced the Wildcats for the second-straight day, as she posted an 185.4 scoring average over five games. Red-shirt senior Kaitlyn O'Hara (Clarence Center, N.Y.) posted a 198.0 average over two games, while sophomore Katlyn Newberry (Rochester, N.Y.) finished with a 166.2 average over five games.

Daemen is idle until Oct. 27-28 when it takes part in the Medaille Invitational at Classic Lanes in Tonawanda, N.Y.
